  • Nothing bad, nothing amazing.
I have these on a Schecter P-5 that I use a lot. These are good strings, and I am buying another set for my Jazz, but they’re not mind blowing. I find these very durable, stay in tune well, and the red silks look kinda snazzy. One thing I do like is that they seem to have a little less tension than some strings, and for round wounds they’re pretty easy on your fingertips. This works well for me when I’m playing a 4 hour gig. As for the sound? Well, they’re…..strings I guess? Nothing remarkable, very “vanilla” sounding. Decent low B as far as sound, but nothing that will make your sound “stand out”. For me, this works out perfectly for what I do. Match up to a good bass with a decent preamp and you can get sounds you probably like, anyway. I do like how comfortable these are, and I’m not hesitating buying another set. If your strings define your sound or you want something with a lot of character, these wouldn’t be my choice. But a good workhorse string, for sure. ... show more

  • Real meaty clear tone. Cannot go wrong with these babies
I cannot see any bass player complaining about the tone of these strings. Too nice

  • Favorite bass strings for low & drop tunings
I should state that I’m using these on a four string bass — I disregard the top lightest string and use the lower four to tune down as far as drop A. The Bass Boomers in general have a better feel and clarity than most other off-the-shelf brands I’ve used and I’ve been switching on and off from them for about ten years, just because it can be difficult for me to find the proper gauge locally without having to order online. Every time I put Bass Boomers back on my bass guitar, I’m always like “why didn’t I do this earlier?” ... show more

  • GHS Boomers are amazing!
Have been using GHS Boomers on all my instruments for years and love them!

  • What? You mean they make other brands of strings?
After initially trying nearly every brand you can think of, GHS Boomers are the only electric guitar and bass strings I've used for over 30 years. They're marginally better than some brands and waaay better than others, but no matter how you slice it, better is still better! I have no need to look elsewhere, because I found the best and am happy with them. It's no surprise to me that countless professional guitarists and bassists feel the same way, and rely on Boomers to make a living with every day. Their feel, tone, playability and durability are unmatched, and their usable lifespan surpasses any brand I've tried. They are also incredibly consistent. Every set feels and sounds exactly like the last one. You just can't go wrong with Boomers. ... show more

  • You can't go back once you've played better.
Haven't played these in over 25yrs, thought I'd give them a rip for nostalgia's sake. I've been playing their GHS Balanced Nickels on my 5 string Jazz Ultra for the last year and absolutely love the consistency and tension balance. The Boomers set had exceptionally bright D and G strings with the rest of the set sounding dead. Two weeks in and A-B strings continue lose tone while the D and G strings are still uncharacteristically bright relative to the rest of the set. Back the the Balanced Nickels, not worth saving the $10. ... show more
