  • Great sound and easy to play
Style: Musical Instrument String
These strings are just what I hoped for, which was a not-too-muddy sound in a flatwound string. I like flatwounds because they don't have the finger squeak (zing!) when you move your hands from note to note like roundwounds do, and I like the deep bassy sound of them. But some flatwound strings can be too bassy on a particular bass guitar. These are just right. I'm using them on two bass guitars and like them very much. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Hofner bass flats
Style: Musical Instrument String
Great for a Hofner. At some point a couple years back GHS fixed the length of the short scales so that they fit the Hofner. Perfect sound. Didn’t like la Bella Hofner flats, they are just too scooped and boomy. These have more warmth that the hollow body needs.

  • Save your fingers!
Style: Musical Instrument String
I have been a bass player for a bit over five years now. I started out with a full-scale fender jazz Bass which I struggled with due to having small hands in very short fingers. At some point I discovered short scale Bass! Last year I ended up kind of shredding my middle plucking finger. I reoffended a couple times after the fact, and decided I needed to have smoother strings. Finding flat-wound strings for short scale Bass was quite an endeavor in itself. Not many string makers make them. Ironically, I couldn't even find them in guitar center. So I turned to Amazon, and there they were! These strings are like silk. And for me, they have a more thump/deep tone to them, which is what I love. If you're looking for something brighter, I would suggest something else, perhaps semi flat, would be a good compromise. ... show more

  • For my Music Man short scale bass
Style: Musical Instrument String
First GHS strings I ever bought, normally I get LaBella but could not find a set so I tried these. Wonderful string with that flat wound sound I like, I have been playing Hornets since the 60’s and these are just as good.

  • Perfect.
Style: Musical Instrument String
These are really well balanced flats. They don’t have that annoying “bing!” that Chromes have in the upper midrange on the attack. They’re not clacky like Cobalts. Beautiful pillowy lows. Perfect amount of midrange- not too scooped or overpowering. Super easy, tight muting. Not as smooth feeling under finger as some other more expensive flats, but still very comfy. ... show more

  • Nice Balance of Old Flats with a Bit of a Nice Brightness!
Style: Musical Instrument String
I can't say what I like is what you would like, tone definition is varied over one's perception, my thoughts are that these have a nice classic flat full sound with a bit of brightness built in. Just my opinion.

  • Awesome on my shortscale bass
Style: Musical Instrument String
I had ny shortscale Dan Electro Longhorn in for a tune up at the local shop. They put the crappiest strings on it and it sounded terrible. I swapped them out with these beauties and it was night and day. The sound is amazing now!

  • flatwound = smooth as silk
Style: Musical Instrument String
I'm a guitar player and I bought my first bass - a Gibson LP jr bass. Short scale. and I didn't want the strings to eat my fingers alive. So I got these flatwounds and they're amazing. These aren't "bright" strings, but in getting flatwounds you know that already. These have THUMP and comfort. Perfect. ... show more
