My husband loved this Ghosthorn fishing pole! It’s very light and convenient on the go. Disassemble into two-three pieces in and out of the case and the line spool with mock bate tools are easy to install too. I’ve always wanted a portable, easy to carry fishing rod because I travel often and love the excitement and challenge of fishing unfamiliar waters. This is the ideal rod I’ve been dreaming for. The set comes with everything I needed to start fishing right away, a high-performance spinning reel (a $40 value on its own), braided line (easily worth $10), various lures (approximately $15 value), and even hooks! Excellent value! The telescopic fishing rod is ultralight. In fact, when I received the delivery, I wondered if the shipper had forgotten to include the rod in the package! Upon first inspection, the rod appears steady. It is extremely compact, measures just over 16”. You can easily tuck it in a backpack or any carryon bags. Just before Christmas, I drove to a costal river in the Olympic Mountain to test it out. I was not disappointed. It handles just like other medium action rods that I have except it is much lighter. Even though I didn’t catch any fish (steelhead is what I was targeting), blown out river due to recent storms was to blame. The rod performed beautifully. ... show more

It's OK, a little lighter action than it should be but it's OK. One of the eyelets became loose but I just reset it tightly and it's holding for now. The reel is actually the better part of thus combo. Was surprised how light the turns were while still pulling fish. Don't load the rod too much and you'll be fine. ... show more

I've taken the pole out about 4 times when camping. Have other poles I use on occasion but wanted something more sturdy and easy to carry. This pole appeared to fit the bill. The string that came with the pole CONSTANTLY got tangled up easily. I re-stringed the pole 3 times to make sure it was good but had some sort of ridiculous tangle more often than not. So I used my own string and it appeared to work fine. The last time I went camping, the lure got snag, so I tried to loosen the string a bit, then pull to get the lure to pop out. Well, that somehow snapped the pole in half. Top part just broke after about the third time when relocating to get out of the snag. That's just crazy to me, I use other poles that are much thinner and have never had a pole break so easy.... I don't know if this was just a bad product I got, but it definitely left me in a sour note. There are other poles I would definitely recommend before this one. ... show more

Took it out fishing with my son on the kayak the day after it arrived. I have never had a telescoping rod before, but have wanted one for some time. The convenience and ease for getting through thick brush to tighter fishing spots is unmatched. This combo did not disappoint! Each section of rod between the guides is the same length, due to the fact that it's a telescoping rod. As such, the guides at the tip are further apart than a standard rod would be, and this causes the rod to flex in a unique way at the tip, but it wasn't a problem, just took some getting used to. I have the rod paired with a Ghosthorn tackle bag (seen in pics) and absolutely love the setup. Throw it on my back, hike it in and do some fishing without the hassle of dragging full length rods through those tighter spots and worrying about breaking them. The reel is smooth and I appreciate the larger knob on the crank. The travel bag it came in appears to be nice, however, I won't be using it. Seems like it would be great to leave in your vehicle for that quick grab-and-go fishing spot should you stumble on it. I tied one of the included lures on my five-year-olds rod, and sure enough, he caught fish! I didn't expect the rod to have any feel, being telescoping and all, but I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't feel like I was fishing with a stick,it actually felt like a reasonable rod. Certainly it's not going to perform like a St. Croix, but it more than gets the job done. It's also a bit heavier than a normal rod, but again, there's no way around that if you want the convenience of telescoping. Overall I'm not sure there's a better telescoping rod/reel combo on the market. Wouldn't hesitate to buy again. Additionally, the customer service squad at Ghosthorn is second to none, so purchase with the confidence that they take care of their customers and care about their products. ... show more

I ordered this pole because I wanted a collapsible rod for when I have to travel. I made the conscious decision to go for price rather than quality since I would only be using it three or four times a year. Imagine my surprise when I realized it is a really, really good rod and reel. The lures are good also, and they didn't even paint the eyelets closed on the jig heads (I hate that). I would recommend two changes by the manufacturer. 1) include some sinkers and small hooks for bait fishing, and 2) make the net pocket in the carrying case zippered to prevent added items from spilling out. As far as the case goes though, it too is really durable and high quality. Honestly, I was incredibly pleased with this purchase. I've used it a couple times so far on regular fishing outings, and I am probably going to get a couple for gifts for other avid fishers in my life. I bought two of these. One for my dad to keep on his kayak and one for my step dad to keep on his pontoon and they both love them! It’s a great idea and a compact design. The kit comes in a zipper case with a foam insert. They both took the foam out once they assembled everything so they could store more fishing g accessories in the bag. It’s great!
