  • 20-year old design is still the best
Style: 4.62 in. Overall Length
There's a reason this knife has not changed in twenty years: Gerber isn't one to mess with perfection. For what it's supposed to do, this knife is perfect. No knife "does it all." This one does one thing perfectly: supply a small, ultralight, safe (locking), two-inch, corrosion-free, reasonably durable, easily sharpened blade for light-duty tasks that you encounter throughout the day (cutting string, opening packages, etc.) or general use around a campsite. It is light and small enough to place on a keychain; the handle is just large enough for a three-finger grip; the handle is textured enough that you won't slip; the lock is rock-solid. It easily fits in the coin pocket of your jeans. In fact, the only problem posed by this knife is that you will forget it's even in your pocket -- it's that small and light -- and eventually you'll lose it or have to discard it in an airport security line. The knife does not have a metal lining to the handle. This is a compromise to save weight, expense, and thickness. As a result, you should not use this knife for heavy-duty wood carving or anything that provides strong twisting force, as eventually that would loosen the pivot point in the handle. But I'm currently on my fourth of these over twenty years, I use it constantly, and I've never had one get loose by the time I lost it. If you need a sturdier version of a small knife, look at the excellent Spyderco Chicago, which is steel-lined and can take very heavy use. But for the same two-inch cutting edge (the edge length is identical; I have both, and I measured), the Spyderco Chicago is larger in every other dimension, more than three times the weight (which is quite noticeable, and not keychain-friendly), and at least four times the price. Like I said, no knife "does it all." Each of these options is perfect for what it's designed to do. ... show more

  • The knife that put gerber on the map
Style: 4.62 in. Overall Length
This little knife is the perfect size for a utility minded pocket knife that wouldn’t be classified as a weapon. I find it’s sharp enough to do the basic things one requires of a knife but is small enough and light enough that you forget it’s there till you need to use it. This was the knife that put Pete gerber on the map and it’s easy to see why. This was the original Gerber knife with its blade designed by Blackie Collins. It’s been around for years and when you get one it’s easy to see why. I use mine for opening parts boxes at work and prefer it to the razor blades most people like to use. It’s also very handy for loose strings and most things in life that small knives are helpful in getting rid of. Weighs next to nothing too but still has a good blade. I’ve had lots of knives over the years but the LST is the one that’s most likely to be on me at most times. The best part is it was made in the United States in Portland Oregon and is proudly stamped on the blade. The price here is 13 bucks cheaper then the company website so quit reading and buy one yourself from here. You’ll quickly find it’s the most inexpensive and useful piece of cutlery you’ll ever buy ... show more

  • Love this small lightweight knife
Style: 4.62 in. Overall Length
I really like the length of this knife. Closed it measures 2 11/16" and I want a unobtrusive knife in my pocket. The blade is 1 3/4" which is small but enough for anything I'd use a pocket knife for. I also like the closing mechanism for ease of use. I have another gerber that opens by pressing side of knife away from center which works fine but not as convenient. I do wish the LTS Ultralight were as thin as my other one. The narrow end is about 1/4" and thicker end where lanyard hole is is about 3/8". My other Gerber is about 3/16" end to end. The LTS Ultralight would be my perfect knife if it also was 3/16" thick. Or if my other Gerber had a clip so I could keep it from the bottom of my pocket where the length makes it uncomfortable. I don't use the lanyard hole. But I'm happy with the length and feel of the LTS Ultralight knife. For the people that leave a 1 star review because it's "too small", don't blame Gerber because you didn't read the description. That's on you. ... show more

  • Tiny
Style: 4.62 in. Overall Length
It is smaller than I realized when I ordered it, but it is fully functional and light weight, so good for EDC.

  • Arrived dull, but otherwise solid
Style: 4.62 in. Overall Length
I like this knife to have a blade for UL backpacking. It came really dull though. I scared my wife by sawing at my tongue with it. That's how dull it was. So be prepared to sharpen it. My previous Gerber was super sharp. Otherwise it's a good knife. Mainly use it to cut cheese.

  • ultralight backpacker knife, heavy duty key ring knife.
Style: 4.62 in. Overall Length
Get this knife! This was The Favorite folding ultralight knife in the mid 90's among many backpackers. If you did not like this model you liked its bigger brother. I carried this knife as my "backup" knife for so long that it became old enough to sprout legs and walk away on its own. I tried to get another but Gerber stopped making them due to "production cost" (I called). Of all the mini folding knives I have owned this one is real, not just a package opener. It fits well in my size large/extra large hands first three fingers with the pinkie hanging off. It is plenty strong for today's light field craft such as making shish kebab skewers, wooden "butter" knife, and the occasional tent stake. The action is smooth and firm, locking solidly. They put a safety notch mid point to closing making it so the knife won't fold up on you while closing the knife. Closed, this knife is two and three quarters inches long. Open it is four and three quarters inches long. The sharpened edge is one and three quarters inches long. When closed both ends of the blade are concealed within the handle scales, making it pocket friendly. The blade is thickish for its size, yet slightly thinner than its older brother, but the handles are exactly the same thickness, making this mini knife feel not too mini. ... show more
