The media could not be loaded. As a way to get into the world of fiber lasers, this is a great learning tool. It's only a 2w laser, so don't expect to do much more than etch metals. There's not enough power here to engrave metals. If this fits your bill and your budget, then you will be impressed by the precision and accuracy of the laser itself. The software isn't the best, and unfortunately you can't use other software like Lightburn. However, the software that it does come with is easy enough to use for most basic functions.     • It’s a low power fibre laser that can only etch on certain things
It is okay as an etcher. It’s certainly does not work on paper , wood and most metals. The software is not intuitive and difficult to understand. It only works in Windows. No smartphone App.

    • Well built and sturdy
I just received this laser today. I've had a Genmitsu diodes laser in the past and the build quality was second to none. The Z5-1 is no acception! First impressions is the Fit and finish is great and it's very stable on either base. I've done 11 engravings so far with a few repeat jobs so I will give you the pros and cons for engraving metal (I'm a knife make so engraving my makers mark will be this machines primary purpose) Pros: as me tions, it's very well built. It looks and feels like a machine worth twice what I paid for. The repeatability is great and very accurate The software is easy enough to use. It took me about 10 minutes to figure out the basics and get going The three different modes are nice for different applications Everything you need to start engraving is included except a PC It can run very quick. I make a custom aluminum business card in about 75 seconds Motorized Z axis is awesome and the up and down are touch sensitive. Cons: The fan always runs weather the laser is actively engraving or not The fan is quite loud The work area is fairly small. Not a problem for me but may be an issue for some. Not sure if reversing the head on the base would increase the real estate of the work area or not. So far the only software you can use is the included software. Which seems to be pretty good but it's something I'll have to get familiar with. Hopefully they will make it lightburn and GRBL compatible I wish the usb A-C cable for the unit was coiled like a telephone cord (that's what the diode laser had so having one for this would have been a nice touch) The focal lasers are a couple inches apart from the main laser so smaller workpieces will need to be moved from focusing to work positions.     • Powerful unit for 2watt galvo. Works great. Software is the downside.
This is an amazing product. I was blown away comparing it to my x20 diode laser. High detail fast etching. Im not able to get it to etch wood just yet if capable. But great product. Things id love to see improvement on this or next model. External controller to connect to a phone app. Mac support Ability to use battery pack with a sd card or memory to make it just a little more handheld . Easy improvement would be a perameter table with all different types of materials. Its be great to have a picture of expected result and what settings to choose. The manual has some but its limited. Id love the etch range to be 100x100 vs 70x70 The software is where this seems to fall off big time but its better than the competetors by having it translated and mostly working as ive had it crash a few times. Lastly a grid should be etched on the cutplate so we know exactly where it can and cant etch. Pipe dream. A camera built in so you can timelapse and do augmented reality in the app so you can line up etching 100% and the ability to replace fans with wuieter ones. This machine feels and looks like good quality. It is very easy to use. The software is also easy to use. I have seen a lot of reviews saying the software is difficult to use. This is not true. If you are smart, It is very easy to use and set up. Pro tip: Take the lens cap off. It is the same color as the machine and will not laser engrave anything if you leave it on . ... show more

    • The software is tedious, but the quality of this engraver is very high
Software: I agree with reviewers, and discussion forums, who've pointed out the software that accompanies this engraver, is problematic. The software isn't user-friendly. It can be overly complex one minute, and overly simplistic the next. It also struggles to input setting parameters at times. However, it is "workable", if you're patient with it. With the above said, Genmitsu absolutely needs to update this software, and design it to be product specific, as opposed to a one sized fits all software architecture. Hardware: The hardware of this engraver is very high quality; in some aspects more than you'd expect at this price point. The level of detail, and finish quality to this engraver is spot on. This is an engraver that can handle heavy use for several years. I wouldn't characterize this as industrial commercial quality, but it's certainly professional quality for individual, or small businesses. Accuracy: Genmitsu is known for accuracy, and this engraver doesn't disappoint in that area. Expect highly accurate, repeatable results. Overall: I'm torn on my rating, to be frank. The hardware, build quality, and accuracy of this engraver is absolutely 5 stars. On the other hand, while workable, the software definitely falls short. I'm confident the software will be updated, but in the meantime, be prepared to have some headaches with it from time to time. 4 stars due to overall hardware, build quality, and accuracy. ... show more
