My review will have nothing to do with how much can be done with this machine. I don't know the first thing about carving with a CNC machine. But I do own one now and hope to begin climbing this steep learning curve soon. Let me explain why it has taken well over six weeks to get started. First, the package arrived and it was delivered by Amazon Freight. Yes, the crate weighed 230 pounds and was very well packaged. No complaints there, just a little surprise. I did not have a bench sturdy enough on which to put this beast. So, my first project was to build a table that was going to be dedicated to CNC Machining. I built my table out of 2x4 and 2x6's with a 1/2" plywood top. Went with a 32" height including the casters on the bottom of the legs. I have limited space in my garage and need to move things around. That took over aa week, but I couldn't resist going ahead and getting the parts out of the box and organizing for the build. This was fun. I love projects like this. The assembly is straight forward and well explained in the User Guide. I got everything out of the box and spread out on a table for assembly. All parts were well marked and several things were already put together, There were two things left over, a metal plate and a cable, that were not in the parts list. Ended up being items needed for a Laser Router if added in the future. So, save them for the future. Got the machine on my table, all assembled and ready to fire it up, and realized how little I knew about what I was about to do. My first problem was getting the WiFi to connect, and it was my misunderstanding of the screen. I kept hitting the green button like it was "go", and nothing would happen. Turns out there was an arrow next to it that I needed to hit. Once I did that I was connected. Then I started the search for the drivers and software. SainSmart Support sent me to a website for this but it was all confusing and no help. And while I was struggling to figure out my options, I noticed a small unopened bag with a brush and a couple of other small things. And that was when I found a Flash Drive containing all the stuff needed to get started. Neither the User Guide nor Support mentioned a Flash Drive, so take note, it will help. Then I decided to install Easel. Very easy to install and though I haven't used it yet, Easel was what discovered that my machine had a glitch that I was unaware of. The program has a Learning section that will install your machine and its parameters. And while going through its setup, it tried to install my homing switch. When I hit 'calibrate' it would start but never finish. And though my Spindle had moved to the home position, Easel never calibrated, and I just skipped that went ahead and finished the setup. But the X axis wouldn't move. Y and Z worked fine, but not until I turned the console off and back on could I jog the X axis. It was then that I felt my machine had a problem and contacted SainSmart Support. Let me say this at the outset, kudos to Jamie at SainSmart. It took several weeks and even more emails to discover the problem, but I was never brushed off like the nuisance I was becoming. I could go into a lot of details about what the troubleshooting entailed, but the problem was with the limiter switch. I believe it came already attached to the bracket, but whether it was or I did it, when attached to the machine it was too far from the trigger to actuate the Limit/Proximity Switch and stop the X axis. That said, there are red LED lights on both the limit switches and stepper motors that indicate a problem. Helpful to know but not mentioned in the User Guide. I have been stocking up on bits and have yet to decide on software. I'll have to let you know about that in the future. But at this point I'm not afraid to say that my investment so far has been the right one. By the way, when I bought this I added the Rotary Module, but haven't even opened the box yet.

Very easy to set up. All cables are labelled on both ends as well as the control box, so there is no way to mess up the connections. After a couple successful runs with the router, I gave the laser module a test run. It took me a minute to realize you have to change the system command settings manually when switching from router to laser, but I eventually got the laser working. Ironically, I experienced the same problem when switching back to the router. Not only do you need to switch the lever on control box, but you must re-establish the correct mode in the GRBL system by manually typing the commands in whatever interface your using. In my case it was the freeware Candle. $32=10000 and $30=0, entered when using a router. $32=1000 and $30=1, entered when using laser. Thanks to the SainSmart tech support for that little tid bit. They even sent me a quick guide for future reference of all the system command settings. NICE!

This machine is packed very well for transit- totally encased in foam. Assembly is fairly easy- just follow the instructions exactly. This is a very robust machine - a big step up from a hobby CNC. The bed is a great size and cut accuracy is superb. I purchased a 2nd machine and may get an another. Customer service has been excellent!

I upgraded to the Genmitsu PROVerXL 2x2 from the Genmitsu 440 Pro, and the difference is night and day. The larger work area alone has completely changed what I’m able to make. Going from a small desktop machine to a full 2' x 2' CNC means I can finally take on bigger woodworking and signage projects without constantly splitting files or re-indexing. It has also helped cut down my overall runtime on jobs that used to push the limits of my old machine. The closed-loop stepper motors, ball screws, and linear rails make a noticeable improvement in accuracy and reliability. With my old CNC, I had to worry about skipped steps on longer projects, which is less of an issue here. The cuts are cleaner, the motion is smoother, and the repeatability has been excellent. The 710W spindle is a big upgrade too. It handles hardwoods easily and does well with plastics and soft metals when dialed in. Having both 1/4" and 1/8" collets out of the box is perfect for switching between roughing and detail work. Assembly takes a bit of time, and you’ll want a solid table for it, but once it’s set up, the machine feels sturdy and capable. It’s definitely geared toward makers who already have some CNC experience, not a beginner machine, but a nice step up. It is quite costly, so I'm sure you will want to research your CNC needs prior to spending the thousands of dollars on this CNC. It's important to note that they deliver it on a pallet and it is quite heavy to move. I needed to unbox it in my driveway and take the pieces individually to my workshop since it was so heavy. Overall, this CNC has opened the door to larger, faster, and more precise projects. If you’re moving up from a smaller machine like the 440 Pro, the difference in performance is absolutely worth it.

UPDATE: Here we are at nearly one month, and guess what, still no help. No guidance. A replacement stepper motor was sent, but can’t be installed. No actual verbal communication because there is no phone service for customer support. Meanwhile, I’ve lost all of my orders that this machine would help facilitate, but SainSmart has their money. Great business model. Going on day 10, the machine still will not Home. SainSmart is little to no help…….any product support is Ai. It is becoming a very expensive and large conversation piece in my shop.

This is my first personal CNC router, though I own a few 3D printers and have experience using industrial CNC machines. My first impression is that this machine is built incredibly well. Everything arrived securely packed in high-quality foam within a large cardboard box, and the assembly process was relatively simple. I started the build by unboxing everything and laying it out to verify all parts were present. While assembling, I used blue Loctite on the stepper motor bolts and left the main table bolts loose initially so I could square the frame by measuring diagonally with a tape measure. Once it was perfectly square, I tightened everything down. I then attached both Y-axes to the frame and dropped the X-gantry on after verifying both Y-axes were in the identical position. After connecting the cables, the manual instructions say to move the Y-axes to the rear near the stepper motors to tighten the Y2 mounting bolts, then move the X-gantry to the front to do the same for the front bolts. This section could use better clarity, especially for someone with zero CNC experience, as there was no clear explanation on how to actually move the Y-axes smoothly during this step. Overall, the physical assembly took about 1.5 hours. I initially had a bit of trouble connecting to the router, but after about 15 minutes, I realized it was just a quick user oversight, the emergency stop on the controller was simply pushed in from shipping. Once released, it connected instantly. I loaded the included "Your First Project" file and successfully engraved the Sainsmart logo. For my first real project, I ran a test cut for a stove top tray featuring a custom name design. I exported the G-code from my CAM software (Mill Mage) and used one of the small V-carve bits that came in the box, and the cut turned out great. If you are looking for your first CNC router for a hobby or a small home business, this is an excellent value. It comes with absolutely everything you need to get up and running right out of the box.
