  • General Tools #822: Precision Perfected! A Woodworker's Secret Weapon
Size: 5-Inch Pattern Name: Angle Finder
As someone who struggles with reading analog protractors, the General Tools Digital Angle Finder #822 has been a total game-changer for my shop. This tool doesn't just measure angles; it delivers precision and confidence, making every cut for crown molding, trim work, and complex joints perfect on the first try. If you are serious about clean, tight joinery, ditch the analog tools and get this. Accuracy & Display (5/5): The core function is flawless. The large, clear LCD display is easy to read from any angle, which is crucial when you're maneuvering the tool. It reads to 0.1 degrees, which is the level of accuracy needed for professional-looking results. The zero function is incredibly useful, allowing you to establish a relative zero point instantly—perfect for measuring the difference between two complex angles. Build and Durability (5/5): This is not a flimsy plastic gadget. The 5-inch rule is constructed from robust stainless steel, giving it the weight and feel of a quality instrument. It feels durable enough to withstand the knocks and dust of a busy workshop. The hinge mechanism is solid, moving smoothly but holding position firmly once secured. Ease of Use (5/5): The operation couldn't be simpler: measure the angle, read the number, and done. I especially love the locking knob, which lets me secure an odd angle so I can easily transfer the reading directly to my miter saw fence or table saw blade tilt. It saves time and eliminates frustrating trial-and-error cuts. Verdict: The General Tools #822 is the perfect blend of modern digital accuracy and classic, durable construction. It performs exactly as a high-quality protractor should, ensuring zero frustration and perfect joints. It is a vital tool that instantly elevates the quality of your finished projects. ... show more

  • I love this tool
Size: 10-Inch Pattern Name: Angle Finder
I'm a woodworker, and I've never had a more accurate angle finder than this. A simple bevel square is fine for matching an angle, but this tool works for doing more complex work, like making accurate triangles, hexagons, or rhombuses for geometric patterns. The 1/10th of a degree accuracy outperforms any other tools for setting up my wedge sled for making segmented bowls and vases. ... show more

  • Well-made; Useful; not perfect, tho'; Made to use with larger items, but OK for miniatures
Size: 5-Inch Pattern Name: Angle Finder
The the stainless-steel arms of this angle tool are definitely made to last a very long time. The digital read-out is easy to see and its housing seems to be a high-impact type of plastic, so that will also last a good long time. There is an "On" button that also sets the "zero" angle to be whatever you want, so it works for additive angles. There is also a "Rev" or reverse angle button if you need to measure an inside angle. I do wish it had an "Off" button, though, so I could turn it off the instant I'm done, which would save battery life. I also would have preferred arms that were not so wide. I also wish there was some sort of "soft stop" at 90 degrees. I got this so I could measure the angles I cut on 1:120 scale projects, to make sure that what I actually cut is at the correct angle. This works decently for that, although the wide arms make it cumbersome. But it "is" accurate, and I've been able to adapt so far. ... show more

  • Perfect -- even has an "off" button
Size: 5-Inch Pattern Name: Angle Finder
Love this accurate, easy to use angle finder for all the reasons that everyone has already written about. Some folks complain about it not having an off switch to save battery life: there is a small button beneath the angle readout that gives access to the battery, if you depress that just a bit, the battery disengages instantly -- push back on the wider tray above the readout to re-engage the battery. Easy, effective and friction keeps the battery tray where it belongs. ... show more

  • Very accurate, repeatable and easy to read
Size: 10-Inch Pattern Name: Angle Finder
I checked the accuracy of this gauge against a machinist straight edge for "straightness" of both scales and a machinist square for 90deg and both were dead on. I used a precision made triangle from Woodpeckers to check 45deg and it was exact also. It is a little long for checking angles on a miter saw but can be made to work. Works well setting up table saw angle cuts. There are many uses for this gauge and so far I am very pleased with it. I have found if you tighten the "knob" rather slowly it's not difficult to keep it at the desired angle. Haven't had it long enough to attest to it's functionality over a long time span. To me it's well worth the price. ... show more

  • Great accuracy!
Size: 10-Inch Pattern Name: Angle Finder
Although this has no "Off" switch, you can simply push the battery shuttle out slightly when not in use, and it will turn off, and the shuttle will stay put, then it will restart when you push it back in. It WILL shut itself off at 3 minutes of non use, and will stay off until you turn it back on. (Rotating the rulers won't restart it.) It doesn't remember the angle reading when it shuts down, so if it shut off, you'll have to close it, zero it, and reset your angle, but 3 minutes is usually enough time to do your measuring. The "Rev" button reverses the reading to the other side of the scale. If it's on 0, Rev will switch it to 180, 10 to 170, etc. All in all, it is well made, very accurate, and well worth what I paid for it. ... show more

  • Great tool with serious design flaw
Size: 10-Inch Pattern Name: Angle Finder
This is one of those tools I can't believe I lived without. The tool is well made with finely engraved markings for the rules. These are very precise and the angle measure is precise to within 1\10th degree. I would have given this 5-stars if it had an on\off button. It powers off on a timer. To turn off the battery must be slid out. The problem is the contact for the battery fatigues. Mine died after 8 hours. I thought maybe the included battery was bad and I put in a new one. It wouldn't work. I ended up disassembling it and inserted a bit of mouse pad rubber behind the flimsy battery terminal so it holds contact. Now it works fine, but I wonder how long that will last. Unfortunately, the best alternative is made by Bosch at around $200- ! Similar brands in the price range of this one appear to use the same meter and slip ring head. It's a great tool but so far pretty maintenance heavy. ... show more
