My son became interested in playing after he was placed in a music elective. We didn’t know if he would keep up this habit or not so we didn’t want to spend hundreds on a minute hobby. This is the perfect starter kit that has all you need for quiet in home practicing. The amp works well, but is for individual room/home use. Very compact and easy to put up. The picks have different sizes (thin, medium, heavy)and my son has already used the variety. He is even bringing it to school to use on his music days. It’s easy and light to tote around. This is the second Gearit of this style that I've purchased , The first one I modded with a loaded SSS Artech pick guard, this one I did nothing to and it sounds fine , they both play about the same they are both heavy due to the Ash body. Both were playable out of the box and the necks are thin and comfortable, the finish on both are pretty good but I don't look that hard for flaws, I look for set up , fret work , sound , cut of the nut , and tuning stability all of those things are fine and if you like a heavy guitar then this is the Strat shape for you. ... show more

It is worth the price tag, but it is for amatures i guess. If you are picky with sound quality..you should look for something else but as for an amature, this guitar feels nice, look nice and its nice to have all the accsesories for start with

    • A Lot for the Money, But...
It's everything you need to get started, but the quality matches the price. The tuners on the guitar head have dead spots. It's hard to keep the guitar in tune (different strings might help), and it seems like the frets might need a little work as the notes up the neck seem a little off in spots. The Les Paul version guitar is heavy and is probably not suitable for a young student. The guitar actually sounds better than I expected. The electronic tuner doesn't recognize the B string. The amp is tiny (3-inch speaker?) but works and is fine to get started with if you don't have an amp. I bought this package for electro-mechanical experimentation, so I am happy with what I got.
