    • Do not purchase GE appliances
We did not purchase our GE range from Amazon but from Home Depot. But we want to share our experience with GE as a company and how they stand behind their products. Less than 4 weeks after purchasing the range it has become inoperable. We used the oven to prepare a meal last night, turned it off and sit down to enjoy the meal with dinner guests. The oven had been turned off for approximately 2 hours when we began to smell fumes coming from the oven. Open the oven to find smoke coming from the vents in the bottom of the oven. Even though it had been turned off for 2 hours the back of the oven was hot. We unplugged the stove it continued to produce fumes and smoke. We turned off the gas and the next morning called GE to arrange for service. This is the week of Christmas so we were told the soonest they could come to do the repair would be the Monday after the holiday. Which means we have no means to cook with for the next 5 days. We live in a very rural area in the mountains. So we ask for different options perhaps a replacement of the stove, we were told the only option was to have service come look at it. I'm sure if it's fixable it will require ordering parts and returning to install parts which means even longer before we have a working oven. It also means for the next 5 days and over the Christmas holiday we are without a stove to cook on. I'm old enough to remember when companies like GE sold appliances that were reliable and they stood behind them if they weren't. This is the second new gas range we've purchased in less than 2 years of building our new home. The first one was a Samsung. We highly recommend you do not purchase a Samsung! That stove turned out not to be fixable and they would not stand behind seeing that the year warranty had expired. So we had to sell it on Craigslist for next to nothing. Don't know what the answer is to buying a dependable appliance these days. ... show more
