  • GE quality has gone WAY downhill... Really sad...
Long, but hopefully this helps even one person decide: We had the identical unit from 8yrs ago (GDT655SSJ4SS 46 dBa) and were happy with the performance and style, but the logic board failed. We thought we would get the same model, but the latest version (this one), and get a similar enjoyment from it. (as one would expect things to get better with time/refinement/updates) Many of the design elements between the two are identical, such as the stainless interiors and glued-on sound deadening material around the exterior. However, there are a number of issues with the quality of this newer unit, even properly installed, leveled and wired appropriately. • The newer GDT650SYVFS didn't come with the same sound insulation wrapped around the main tub or under the kickplate/front of unit. (verified by calling in and speaking to GE technician) I was able to pull this insulation from the old unit and it fit in the identical places on this new unit. But even with this, the new unit is 20% louder from the front of the unit. You can clearly hear the water sloshing around when running, which yes you could hear it on the older model, but it was notably quieter. Having the 2 units side by side, and knocking on the inside of the door, the older unit has a much more deadened sound, indicating that the new unit has far less insulation in the door. • The face of the new unit does have fingerprint coating, but the handle does not. It's raw stainless and shows everything. The older unit it was ALL fingerprint protected, including the handle, which wiped clean easily and was really nice with multiple family members always touching the unit. • The drawers/racks inside the new unit are much cheaper and flimsier, compared to the prior unit which had quality double row ball bearing tracks that made for smooth, straight operation, even when weighted. The drawers/racks in the new unit wobble heavily when pulled, and the design to lower the upper rack by needing to take the hole shelf off tracks and move down to another set of rollers is a huge step backward. • The snap-on seals around the outer edge of the newer unit that go around the opening are also ineffective, and do not have the rubberized flap like the previous, which helped to prevent water/steam from going into the cabinet reveals on either side. When I installed my island, I made sure the opening in the cabinet was very snug and square, but this new unit with the simple plastic snap on trim pieces, there was still 1/4” gap left and right, unlike the prior which had the rubberized flaps to make for a good seal around the opening. All in all, I was so disappointed in this new unit that I returned it, based on the degradation of quality, and have purchased a replacement logic board for our older unit. I have learned a valuable lesson in the process, in that a consumer can no longer buy goods online or over the phone sight unseen, and trust that a companies standards would have remained the same or improved over time. This is a huge disappointment. I am thankful I have gained the knowledge over the last 30yrs of home ownership to do these installations myself, or I would have wasted hundreds of dollars to first install, and then remove this unit for return. ... show more

  • If I could give 0 stars--I would.
If there was a zero option, I would select it. If I can save one person from buying this model, then my time will be well spent. This dishwasher lasted 14 months. We paid $600 and then another $200 to install and we are getting a new one this week. We got the dreaded "H20" message. This defect (that is what I will call it) results in having to replace the motherboard, typically, and then quite often the message reappears in a few days or weeks. There is one VERY respected appliance repairman in our area and when I told him the make of our dishwasher and error code we were seeing, he said, "oh I am very sorry. I refuse to work on those anymore. We'll replace the motherboard and then a few weeks later, the same code will appear. I have replaced every relative part to those H20 codes and it's just not worth it." I was shocked. I then went to Reddit and read the same thing. Once you get a H20 code, stop throwing money at it. I did find a repair technician that said he could repair the mother board ($497), but it is very possible that you will get it again in the near future (what???). Our water pressure is fine, the hoses are all functioning and the filter is clean. Save your money and your headache. That was the last GE appliance we are buying and we were very loyal to GE. But this top of the line model dying after 14 months of use is enough of me to go elsewhere. Bye GE! It's been fun. ... show more

  • Does Not Wash Dishes
I scraped and rinsed the dishes beforehand, tried various detergents, temperature boost, and the HEAVY 3 1/2 hour cycle to no avail! This dishwasher simply does not clean dishes!
