Description

This window-mounted cat box features a solid wood frame with mesh side panels and a clear acrylic top panel. The design is intended for installation on compatible vertical windows and provides an elevated space adjacent to the window. The transparent acrylic top panel allows light to pass through while covering the upper surface of the structure. Mesh side panels support airflow and visibility. PVC curtain components and a wooden access panel are included as part of the structure. The unit is designed with adjustable side panels to accommodate vertical window openings measuring 24" to 42.5" wide. EVA pads are included to help fill gaps between the unit and the window frame during installation. The frame is finished in white and can be painted if desired. Materials include solid wood, iron mesh, acrylic, and PVC components. Assembly is required. The product is designed to be mounted on compatible window frames according to the included instructions. Accessories such as interior mats and an entry ramp are included.

I was impressed with the quality. Pre-drilled holes lined up nicely, and easy to assemble. You'll probably find that you have to adapt to your window as I did. Didn't use any of the provided sealing material and instead found that some window weather stripping and rubber caulk backer rod worked for my situation to seal openings. My only caution is if you have vinyl replacement windows, to make sure you have a minimum of 22 " of clearance between the edge of the lip at the bottom of your window, (area identified in photo) and the base of the sash when fully opened. In my case I have windows downstairs that open only to 20". It's not enough to get the unit in the window since it's 20" tall and you have to get the base up and over any lip that is there. Fortunately this replacement window opens to 22" and it's just enough room to get the unit into the opening and I mean, just enough. I'm going to tack some screen material onto it once the bugs start coming because it won't keep out anything smaller than a fly I think but that should be very easy. I built one a few years ago for a much bigger window and it's pretty heavy. This one is light and sturdy. Considering what I paid for this and what it cost me to build one, the price was very much worth it. ... show more

This one easily fit into the window opening and the side flaps made adjusting a breeze. The assembly was very easy with step-by-step instructions. The person who designed the packaging for this item did an outstanding job. There are very few times when I am impressed by how well an item is packaged, but this is one of them. The styrofoam packing material was tight like a jigsaw puzzle, but not so tight that it was difficult to remove; there were finger lifts that made it easy to unpack, and the interior assembly hardware packet was actually tethered to the outside of the box by a red ribbon with an exterior note explaining what it was. No losing that! The engineer who designed the cat window box itself did a pretty good job. Things fit together well once you figured out how to assemble it. The person who wrote the assembly instructions should have a different job entirely. - In Step 1 it is not clear that there is a correct "up" side to the front screen. If you install the front screen upside down like I did, you will not figure that out until Step 5 and then you will have to go back and undo the last four steps to fix it. - In Step 4 it is not clear that there is a correct "up" side to the floor. If you install the floor upside down, you will not figure that out until Step 5 and then you will have to go back and reverse what you did in Step 4 to fix it. - Step 5 is confusing because up until now there have been pre-drilled receptor holes for the screws. There are no pre-drilled receptor holes in Step 5 for attaching the sill bar. So you sit there for a while walking back through the instructions trying to figure out if you messed up again. - In Step 6 there are no pre-drilled receptor holes for attaching the acrylic roof, so you have to carefully position the roof to make sure it fits squarely on the three narrow edges of the box. Good luck. - At the end I was left with an extra wood piece that looks like a poorly drilled sill bar. (See pic.). This piece isn't noted in the assembly inventory, not even as a spare, so I have no idea why it was included. I had to go through all of the steps again and review my work to make sure I didn't miss a step. I will say I appreciated the fact that the manufacturer included spare hardware parts as I ended up needing the spare plastic gasket when the first one I tried ended up being defective. So the assembly was super frustrating. Otherwise it seems to be a decent item for the price, though this is the first day so we'll see how it lasts. ... show more

works great and the kitties love it. fits in and out easy enough, essentially like a super light weight air conditioner window unit. the plastic flaps that create the barrier between indoors and outdoors are fairly ineffective, with gusts of wind sending them flying - but that should be expected with this sort of design. i am considering upgrading the grating using a window-screen material, specifically to shrink the size of the holes so that mosquitos can't come thru. ... show more

This is a great catio, just take your time with assembly and use glue and thread locker where possible for durability. As a wood worker, we went overboard on assembly, but everything we used is also available from Amazon. Easier to do it right once than fix it again later. We glued the wooden pieces after partially drilling in the screws into the main frame to leave a gap so we could brush some Tightbond III into everywhere wood contacted. Add the glue to a shallow cup and have some wet paper towels on hand to wipe up any drips. Also, on the dowelled brace, note the dowels are smaller so the can expand when you drill through with screws on the opposite side. Again, we glued all the wood sections together. I would recommend getting some *stainless* washers and #8 x3/4" pan head screws for the plexiglass top. I feel this could torque when being moved and installed in windows and the screws that come with it are flanged and could crack the plexi. Basically, tighten the stainless screws just barely enough so the washer doesn't move to be sure the plexiglass has the ability to wiggle and not develop a stress crack. The washer also spreads out the pressure of the screw head. You may also need to drill some new pilot holes as the plastic will likely not line up with the pre-drilled holes after assembling the wood frame. Small pilot holes prevent the wood from splitting when inserting screws. Because this will experience big temperature changes, we used Locktite thread locker on the bolts for the window fins. I also notched a small hole (basically one criss-cross) from the screen near the top on one side to allow us to drop in treats for the cats. I snipped with cutters then ran a small file on the remaining wire. Then dabbed some black paint in the wire so it doesn't rust. Also, with the plastic flaps and the doors, it does a pretty good job of keeping out the wind/cold/hot. It looks great! ... show more

It didn’t work with our windows. It was falling inward. There was no way to stabilize it. Request for return was not postage paid and to ship it back costs $140. I would look elsewhere for one that accepts returns in case it doesn’t fit. I would caution to only purchase if you live in a colonial house or prewar apartment where windows have not been updated. ... show more
