Tool post is not made of steel. However, tool post and holders appear to be well made and comes as pictured in the photos.

The tool holders that come with this post will work with it just fine, but are not compatible with the A2Z CNC quick change tool post. Mine came missing one of the two pistons that secures the tool holders, but if you have a lathe (and if you buy this, you probably do) it’s a 2 minute job to make another one. Totally functional, if cosmetically a bit rough. I may refinish the tool holders to fit both this post and my A2Z QCTP, and then be able to use all my tooling on both my South Bend and Sherline platforms. ... show more

    • Decent unit EXCEPT..... eccentric handle is 90 deg CCW from where it needs to be !
Respectable unit with the exception of the eccentric handle mounted wrong. It needs to mount 90 deg CW from original position. Had to drill/tap/remount it which I suppose anyone capable of running a lathe is capable of doing if the have the tools but unnecessary work. Otherwise unit seems solid, tool holders adjust & lock nicely and comes with the most needed holders. ... show more

    • It is not a good fit for my lathe.
It has all the features advertised, but I think it could be used on an even smaller lathe then mine. It would help if it came with an adapter to set on making it more ridged.

    • Does not fit my M1049 from shopfox.
In order to get it to work I had to create a new center post about 1/4 inch longer than the original. Additionally, I used 2 spacers that come with skateboard bearings on the ID of the part that the post sits inside. That makes it a bit tighter but more stable. The aluminum handle used to secure the tool stripped out after my first few uses and I'll need to drill and tap that to M6x1. Other than that I was able to cut steel with the tool holder. I am not sure if that has anything to do with my modifications or if it would have done fine without them. In short, for the money this will work. If you have more to spend do it. ... show more
