Following the success of the GFW-MIC-0821, the redesigned GFW-MIC-0822 provides a heavier, more stable base for supporting larger mics. At full extension, the GFW-MIC-0822 can hold up to 1.5lbs. It also comes equipped with a 2.5lbs counterweight to offset heavier mic loads. The stand’s low-profile range and weighted base provide the ideal solution for desktop recording scenarios, such as podcasts, broadcasts and quick vocals, as well as floor applications for miking kick/bass drums, guitar/bass amplifier cabinets, tops and bottoms of snare drums, keyboard amplifier speaker enclosures, and many more. The compact base helps to reduce the stand footprint in tight-space situations, both in the studio and on stage. The GFW-MIC-0822 includes a 27” telescoping boom arm, twist clutch height and angle adjustment, a clip for cable management, and a no-slip, vibration-reducing gasket underneath the base.

I was not planning on spending $60 on a desktop mic stand. The problem is that my current setup would not allow for a traditional Boom Arm as the desk I use has no "lip" to clamp the arm onto and I did not want to drill into the surface to accommodate a flange mount. Thus I began, in earnest, to shop for a weighted base microphone stand that would be substantial enough to hold a Röde NT-1 condenser mic. Most of the $15 - $20 desktop mic stands I viewed seemed flimsy or did not appear to be large enough to have confidence that they would not tip over. As I searched the Gator GFW-MIC-0822 kept appearing and I kept looking at it. The specifications were what I was hoping for, the build quality seemed decent, and the reviews were exceptionally favorable. What finally "sold" me was the option to make three monthly payments. So I ordered it. I am so happy that I did! This thing is a monster! The base weighs 10 pounds and there is a 2.5 pound counter-weight that comes with the stand. My NT-1 is being held steady without fear. The machining is good enough but not exceptional and all the pieces went together without complaint or issue. Three cable clips are included to assist with cable management and they appear to be of good quality, time will tell, but I am not overly concerned. If you are looking for an alternative to clamp-on boom arm mic stands or are considering one of these right from the get-go, I would absolutely recommend it without hesitation. This is the best microphone stand that I currently own and I will be considering Gator Frameworks for all stands in the future. They build sturdy, quality stands and you won't be disappointed when this arrives to your door. It will be heavier than you think, and that is a great thing as far as I am concerned.

Of all the things I've got on my desktop including various deviecs, toys and souvenirs, this simple almost crude hunk of iron and plastic and steel is prolly the most lovable. It has one job to do, it does it well, everything fits and just works, it never complains, and it's so solid it will probably outlive me, my desk, my house, and the whole neighborhood. I'll likely buy a second one for my other office over all the other boom arms and mic stands I've tried. More expensive but better built and more functional. As heavy as it is, you're still getting a better price in terms of dollars per pound of iron than other mic stands. It's not super sophisticated and there are only two functions setting it apart from a cheap mic stand – the telescoping boom arm and a counterweight at the back in case the thing attached to the end of the boom is a little heavy. That an the super heavy base mean it's not going to tip over no matter what. Unless you do something really wrong, it's not going to tip over. Practically you can set it down on your desk, mount a microphone or lighting device or in my case a webcam rig on a gimbal at the end of the boom arm, adjust the counterweight so it's balanced just right, and then swing it around in when needed – so for me I can swing it right in front of me to the exact spot I want in 3 dimensions I'm using it and then push it out of the way when done. You could also find your own way to use it, like miking up a drum kit.

This is a heavy and sturdy (so far) microphone boom that comes with a heavy 10 lb base (with rubber padding at the bottom) that keeps it stable on your desk. The boom arm can extend out as much as 27.5" from the central pole. However, the 2.5lb counterbalancing weight was not enough to counter balance my Rode NT-USB microphone with the arm extended out 18", so I ended up adding some ring weights - a total of four 1.25lb weights - these take up 2.5" on the counterbalancing side of the boom. You just unscrew the 2.5lb weight on that end and slip in the ring weights and screw the counterweight back on and push the counterbalancing end all the way to the center pole and lock it down in that position. The weights: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08JTX6NCJ/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza?th=1 A little bit of E-6000 glue (same stuff as Shoe Goo) helps keep the weights from slipping and sliding around. The Rode microphone originally came with a mount and a tripod, but somewhere along the way I had taken that off and lost it, so I needed a simple microphone mount since this Gator boom doesn't come with any microphone mounts. I ended up getting this one by HANXIANGZI because it was the cheapest one I could find on Amazon that was made of metal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093BN4TMJ/ref=dp_iou_view_item?ie=UTF8&th=1 It was a tight fit, but I was able to get this mount to work. So far so good. I now have the microphone exactly like I want it and can just swing the whole thing in and out and up and down with no problems.

The base is solid, the counterweight is nice and well made, but the arm is a little weak as well as the angle locking hardware - would not use with an acoustic shield. It does the job, but it's best if it's put into one spot and that's it, not good for a lot of adjusting and movement. The grip for the vertical hardware and base footing is made of a solid rubber and feels good in the hand when adjusting and sits in place well. The hardware that adjusts the angle is compatible with a basic mic stand. Comes with cable management clips that are very nice as well. My main problem with mine is the hardware for the angle adjustment could have been better considering the weight of the counterweight. Another smaller issue is when adjusting the larger reaching arm with counterweight attached is not smooth. The rectangular base is a strange design. Overall pretty happy with it as it serves its purpose.

The heavy, low-profile base keeps it planted—no wobble—even when I angle the boom in tight spots around kick drums, guitar amps, or on a desk. Height and angle adjustments are smooth and secure, the threads feel sturdy, and the footprint stays out of the way of pedals and cables. I needed a way to support a desktop microphone without a C-clamp -- the desk I have doesn't really have a place to attach one. Plus I wanted the flexibility of being able to place it anywhere for different scenarios. The Gator stand is the perfect solution for me. First off, this thing is HEAVY. Between the cast iron base and the boom counterweight, I'd say it weighs probably 25 pounds. It is fully adjustable, which is nice. The main pole has a regular twist-clutch locking mechanism and extends from about 7" (not including the base) to about 15". The boom pole is about 20" and can telescope out at least another 12". The boom counterweight is a nice touch for heavier mics to take stress off of the boom arm clutch. I have it balanced at about the halfway point with an MXL V67t tube condenser with shockmount. The cable clips are a nice touch too. The only complaint I have is that the main pole wants to unscrew from the base when you loosen the height adjustment clutch. It's not really a problem for me because I never really need to adjust the height. If it were, I would probably take a pair of vise grips and really crank it down onto the base. Overall, though, it is sturdy, compact, and looks nice holding my mic on my desk.

The build quality of this mic stand is beyond what I was expecting. It's extremely heavy duty and sturdy. The counter weight on the other end is perfect for balancing the shure sm7b, does not move at all from where you set it. The adjustability and range of motion are really nice and easy to set to your preference. I do think in the end if possible a boom arm is more convenient, however if a desk stand mic is easier for your space then this is 100% worth the cash. I can't think of a single thing I would want more out of this mic stand.

This is actually my second one. The first one I've had for about a year and is of such good quality, I had to buy another one. Even fully extended, it holds heavy condenser mics with their shock mounts without falling over. The base and counter weight are much heavier than they look.
