  • Way to go, Gator!! This is a solid, compact trumpet case.
Style: Trumpet
Don't let the "beginner" description in the listing put you off. This is a GREAT little trumpet case. Would I put it under a plane? No. That's why I have Torpedo cases, and flight cases to wrap around those. Would I put it in the overhead? Yes. Would I carry it locally on a one-horn gig? Also yes. No qualms whatsoever about that. It comes with a shoulder strap. It also has backpack straps! And finally, you could use the carry handle. So, for load in, you've got just about every option to cut down on trips to the car. There's a 9" x 15" front pouch, which is big enough to hold a gig's worth of paper charts, printed up on standard copy paper. There are two mouthpiece "holes" and the case will clamp down on them more than sufficiently to prevent them from flying around the inside of the case. I tested this by putting mouthpieces in the holes (no horn) and shaking the living snot out of it for a solid minute. The mouthpieces are definitely staying put. There are also two little storage compartments on the handle side of the horn cradle. One is about an inch wide, one flares out a little wider. You can make them out in the photos, but it was hard to gauge the depth, so I thought I would fill in that blank. Think valve oil, a microfiber towel, etc. for those. They're not nearly big enough for a mute. Maybe a Crown Royal bag if you're an old school player who knows what that's used for. As far the range of horns it will hold, I put my Benge MLP in it, and that fit just fine. Amazingly, I was also able to fit my Connstellation into it, which has a far wider wrap and a big honking bell. This leads me to my one very slight criticism of this bag. The bell rim is slightly less protected than I'd like, because the horn tray section could be ever so slightly deeper. But, just to be clear, it zipped up easily with the Connstellation in it. If you have a bell bigger than that, then maybe this isn't your case. But even in modern terms, the Connstellation has a humongous bell. So--with the aforementioned caveat that this isn't a flight case and should not be considered one--a LOT of horns will fit in this thing just fine if you're just moving from one place to another locally. For the price, you're getting decent protection and a lightweight, good looking case. Even with my minor quibble it doesn't rise to the level of docking a star. Recommended for anyone needing a decent value priced case. ... show more

  • Tight fit but protective and VERY lightweight.
Style: Trombone
I bought this to replace a gig bag for my Getzen jazz horn. I had always used a reunion blues gig bag in college because I needed something very lightweight given how much I needed to carry it, but I wanted something more protective. My first impressions are that this case is a great advancement in lightweight protection. It is VERY lightweight. I have a BAM Classic for my large bore horn, and this is even slightly lighter than that case. However, it seems to be very protective. I think that comes with advancements in the materials used to build cases like these. This protection is WAY more than a padded gig bag, so a big upgrade there. My only real issue with the case is that the inside was way too tight for my horn. Maybe that will loosen up with time as I put the horn in and out, but it definitely was tighter than I would like. My BAM fits my Edwards like a glove, and this seems like it was designed for a different horn. I am storing a small bore jazz horn in it, so it should be about what it was designed for. I do like the integrated backpack straps and how they store away. And the large pocket outside is nice. If it loosens up slightly inside, this case will end up being a 5 star for me due to its weight. Until then, it is a 4 star. ... show more

  • Sturdy, Durable, Handsome, Very Firm Trumpet Case, But Material Has Slight Chemical Odor.
Style: Trumpet
Features & Considerations: It’s a Gator Case It’s a classic instrument case There is name brand recognition Comfortable and holds-up well Name alone catches attention Easy to pack for travel Slight unusual smells Perfectly stitched Good value No wheels No TSA locks Sturdy handle Unisex Perfectly made case Material: type of polyester Durable, smooth YKK zippers Sturdy, durable padded handle Handle has super sticky Velcro closure Weighs in at around (3¾) pounds, empty Sturdy, durable, tough, possibly repairable It’s luggage for a trumpet, it’ll hold lots of stuff. Premium performance and looks at a middle of the road price Bottom-line? I think I scored big time selecting this. [There is a slight chemical smell from the material, however, as each day rolls by, it’s getting not as noticeably, although the original was not so objectionable that I would have taken any star off. Overall Dimensions? About 21" × 10" × 6" Internal Dimensions? Similar TSA lock? No USB port? No Expandable? No Warranty? Yes, limited “lifetime” warranty. The design and structure of this soft/firm-sided luggage for a trumped provides, I opine, significant structure and protection; this has Gator’s famous name, warranty, and product toughness backing this. It’s an amazing case. The ballistic type material exterior gives all indications of being able to withstand all dings, bangs, scrapes, and such, for many years. Everything is heavy duty, from the material to the corners, to the interior, which offers some left of snug, form, yet soft, protection. This is lightweight, but I think offers excellent protection, especially for student musicians that might divert their attention while carrying this. Personally, the only thing that would likely damage what’s inside is possibly a bus or dump truck rolling over this, maybe. But that’s no guarantee. For everyday use, this is a top-notch case. It offers the internal padding needed to offer a snug protective fit. There is an external pocket too, about 15” x 8¾”. This offers significant value for me. I hope my thoughts added a wee bit of helpful information. ... show more
