  • How can Gates sell this so cheap?
Holding this side by side with the OE pump, this pump is hands down a higher quality part. That is unusual to say the least that an afternmarket part is substantially higher quality than an OE part (especially when there is such a MASSIVE price difference). I paid about $40 to my door for this which is roughly 1/10th of what it would cost me to go with another OE pump which only lasted 125k miles. This one only needs to last 13k miles to be a better deal than the OE pump but the build quality hints that it will last longer than the OE pump. Some reviewers are saying they received a pump with a plastic impeller... I did NOT, mine has a zinc coated steel impeller. Perhaps they did not receive a Genuine product? Mine has a laser etched Gates logo on the machined back surface. Some other reviewers are complaining about the wrap hole location... It is there by design, just watch the Gates tech video on the issue. This pump has a LIFETIME WARRANTY too? For the price, this is hands down the best deal around and I will be putting one on every Cummins truck I own (as the stock ones fail of course). ... show more

  • Perfect fit for a 2006 Dodge 3500 Mega cab with 5.9 Cummins
This was only $5 more than the thermostat I also replaced on the same job. Not sure how it is so cheap. Appears to be as good of quality as the OEM I had to replace at 85k miles. Time will tell and I will update this review if it fails too soon. Lots of youtube help out there for DIY'ers. Swapping them out was a cinch except for the extra body you might need to loosen the serpentine belt off the alternator. I didn't remove the radiator, fan, nor the intercooler so I had to access the belt tensioner from the bottom using my non mechanically savvy son. ... show more

  • Brand Name Water Pump at a Reasonable Price
I am the original owner of a 2003 Dodge Ram with the Cummins engine.. The Cummins engine is superb, but in Dodge trucks they do have a well-earned reputation for water pump leaks. My truck has accumulated just over 111,000 miles and is on its fourth water pump. The original failed at about 25,000 miles. Prices vary widely, and in my opinion, after-market suppliers have capitalized on the Cummins WP issue. Several manufacturers offer very expensive replacement pumps they imply will solve the problem, but I've been unable to find anything on the Internet that supports their claims. I chose Gates, because I have confidence in a brand that has been around for quite some time -- at least 60 years I can recall. I don't expect this pump to last longer than any others that I have run on the truck, but based on the short life of the original equipment pump, I don't expect any will either regardless of how much one is willing to pay. As for the apparent quality of the Gates pump, it does look to be very well made. I didn't find anything that would suggest it was a cheaply made product. I gave this product a four rating because only time will tell if it deserves five stars. ... show more

  • Easy button
This pump looks, fits, and functions just like the OEM pump. FYI - My vehicle is a 2006 Dodge 2500 5.9L Cummins. This is the easiest water pump installation I have ever undertaken on any vehicle. There are youtube videos on how to do this but it is possible to replace this pump without removing anything other than the pump itself. The fan, fan shroud, radiator, etc. can all stay in place. Just loosen the belt tensioner, slip the belt off of the alternator/water pump/fan pulley, remove the old pump (two 10mm bolts, hit the pulley with a hammer to knock it loose), install the new pump, reinstall the belt, release the tensioner, done. I completed the job in easily less than an hour. The 'hard' part is getting the old pump out since it is surrounded by engine components. On my vehicle there is a tubular radiator fan shroud bracket at about the 11 o'clock position. Remove the nut from that bracket (no need to remove the bracket itself) and that will allow enough flex in the fan shroud to remove the old pump and squeeze in the new one. Be careful not to bang the pump into the back of the radiator to avoid puncturing a radiator core; they are pretty easy to damage. ... show more
