  • Great choice for a small, on-demand heater in an outdoor environment.
Great tool to create hot water in my back yard.

  • Major fire risk
Our water heater on the boat failed so I swapped it out for this one. This is the third gas heater I have installed on the boat as they last about 6 years before the electrical connections corrode and it dies. The install was very uneventful. I use Pex line with quick connect fittings to the unit so swapping is very easy. I selected this unit because it has the same configuration as the last one from front starting at the left side: Gas - Hot water - cold water In next to no time the unit was installed and tested. It worked great but had an issue with the water detection. Sometimes it would start the gas even though the only faucet opened was the cold water one. It started the gas and quickly stopped. I figured it was just false detecting. We set out on our trip. My one week off per year I go fishing with the wife. No problems for two days. Then on the third day, I was prepping dinner and I noticed that the water pump was running but no one was using the water. I asked the wife to check the bathroom faucet. Then she screamed. Smoke billowed out of the bathroom. Luckily we had fire extinguishers. The CO2 one stopped the flame but it restarted. We resorted to the dry powder to put it out. That blue stuff in the picture is the residue. The entire boat area was filled with the blue powder. yes I know you shouldn't use dry powder indoors, but when you are facing a massive cleanup or a boat sinking in the middle of nowhere due to fire, you use what you can to put the fire out. The picture shows what the issue was. The unit caught fire internally and the paint on the unit kept it burning. I worked out what happened. The unit turned on the gas even though there was no hot water faucet opened. This caused the water to boil and pressurize the water system. This then burst the hose and caused our pump to detect a pressure drop and turned on because it thought a faucet was open. Thankfully we heard the pump or this situation could have been catastrophic. Imagine it happening at night while we were sleeping! Closer examination revealed that the gas inlet connection was damaged on the seal end and someone had put a glue/sealer on the threads to prevent the gas leaking. I have no idea if this was done at the factory or this unit was returned. Needless to say, it gets a one star review for nearly setting fire to our boat and sinking it in the middle of nowhere. One vacation cancelled, a huge mess to clean up. Completely and utterly not recommended. ... show more

  • Warm water
Well this is my second water heater. So I would have given this 5 stars if it was consistently hot water, but sometimes hot sometimes warm. Not sure of the reason why but it's better than freezing well water. So it works but fluctuates temperature

  • Started Smoking From Inside
I have owned one of these heaters before, and it worked for about a year. When we turned on the water, there was a short delay and then a very loud pop as the propane ignited. We quit using it out of safety concerns. However, since it had worked well for a year, we decided to purchase another one. Unfortunately, after only two uses, the heater quit heating up the water and smoke started coming from inside the heater. It smelled as if components inside the heater were burning. We returned it and bought a different brand. ... show more

  • These things are magic!
Used for some outdoor showers around the property, they run off the water pressure from water stored uphill and are insanely efficient in their propane use. I love these.

  • Sadly doesn't work well
Sadly the hot water only stays on for about 30 seconds and then turns COLD. I then turn it off then on where the hot water turns off again after about 30 seconds. VERY INCONVENIENT when when all lathered for a shower and hair wash in the back woods of Vermont.
