Awesome smart watch. Exactly what I would expect from a smart watch all around. Only gripe is that it cost roughly 1500$ after taxes. If you could get this watch for around 800$ would be the GOAT.

    • Rugged, Feature Full Large Watch - Does it All & Looks Unique!

I've had a Garmin Fenix 3, years ago, and was generally disappointed with its limitations. More recently I've had an Apple Series 7 watch, which I generally liked in terms of it's functionality, but it felt more like a "dress" watch with limited functionality and limited battery life. I purchased the Garmin Tactix 8 Solar for its functionality, ruggedness and looks and I couldn't be happier. I am still learning my way around this watch because there is A LOT of functionality (which I won't go into) but I am already using this watch WAY more than any other watch I've owned. I don't take the watch off very often because the battery life is amazing and it can run for weeks without a physical charge. You'll have to spend some significant time getting it set up and NO the set-up isn't intuitive but once it's the way you want it, it is AWESOME! If you have a Tactix 7 or some other Garmin model you love, then this may not be enough of an upgrade for you, but for me, this watch was worth every penny. Finally, I will say that it's nice to have a connected watch (messages, alerts, music, etc.,) that ISN'T the same old Apple watch that everyone else has. Highly Recommended! One Month Later - Still love this watch and wear it daily. I purchased the Titanium watch band from Garmin (not cheap) and this makes the watch even more wearable. Whereas the rubber watch band that came with the watch would get water or perspiration underneath it and so I would have to take it off occasionally to dry off my wrist, the titanium watch band doesn't have this issue. Also, since the titanium watch band is a fixed length (after removing some links) it fits perfectly every time. ... show more

Smart watches are here to stay, but the Garmin Tactix is more than a shiny new toy. I am a shooter, hiker, camper, mountain biker and all-around get outside enthusiest. The GPS is second to none.. well, it's Garmin..what else would you expect? The Applied Ballistics feature is super handy as a shooter, the training and health is also way more useful and insightful than other "health watches"..cough... Apple...cough.., less invasive with personal info than other smart watches ...cough... Samsung . . cough.. and finally the battery life... Holy cow...12 hrs on other smart watches compared to the Garmin Tactix 30 days?! -not even including the solar feature to extend that even more. You want a watch that is as rugged as you and is more than a shiny data-collecting, light up bracelet? Stop wasting your hard earned green on the latest version of the common not-so-smart cash cow wrist jewelry and get yourself a Garmin! ... show more

    • Why the useless charging cable?

No real complaints on the watch. If you're familiar with past Fenix or Tactix models, you know the deal. However, I have to remark on the unboxing experience a bit. The charging cable Garmin provides is only about a foot long, and basically useless as a result. Does Garmin really think all their customers have a handy USB-C charger sitting right on a table, or that all rentals, even now, come with such accommodations? There is no reason this should not be provided with a standard 6ft cable. Garmin has always had this particular issue with its watches, and honestly it's extremely frustrating for a watch that costs $1400. Update: Deducting an additional star due to the annoying sleep focus schedule which cannot be disabled. Seriously, Garmin? ... show more

The state of the art high performance smart watch. If you are a serious athlete, there are a few other Garmin watches that perform as well as this one. However if you are a tactical, military, operator type... This is the most comprehensively outfitted watch I've ever tested. If you're not a military special forces operator, but you still want the coolest watch, this is it. (I prefer the solar version because the screen gets better the brighter the sunlight is. Top notch watch, so far. The flashlight is quite bright, for what it is. I put an anti glare (matte finish) screen protector on it that I also bought on Amazon. It lowers the crispness of the screen, but a ton less glare in the sun and it does not really prohibit the solar capability. There were no defects on the bezel or otherwise on this watch, as some have said. I did add a bezel protector for it as well. ... show more
