  • Nice Features for the Price
Style: Fishfinder
For the price it seems to be a great product. I don't know much about fish finders. I did some research and this one comes with a lot of features that others in the same price point don't. Installation wasn't too difficult. I didn't want to drill holes in my aluminum boat and that made the installation a little more involved i.e. HDPE block (plastic), Marine adhesive etc. The screen is bigger than most in the same price range as well. Overall, I like it. These don't help you catch fish but you can find areas where they are hiding. ... show more

  • Great unit for ice fishing. And open water too.
Style: Fishfinder
I bought this strictly for ice fishing. I also got the portable kit from Garmin. The unit performed great the first time on the ice. I was in 30ft of water and set the transducer to 200kHz for a narrower cone angle. I have a flasher that I normally use for ice fishing and thought that is what I would use on this one also, but I used the graph with A-Scope more with the Garmin. I liked how I saw a history of what was happening, how the fish reacted to me jigging. I used the standard boat transducer. I have not bought the ice transducer from Garmin and I am not sure I will. It is very expensive and the one that came with this performed very good. It picked up on bottom hugging fish very well. The screen is very bright and sharp. I had no issues with the size of the screen, it is big enough. Edit 9-9-18: With the portable kit from Garmin that I got I decided to use it for open water fishing. The Striker Plus 4 worked really nice. I used it on my Father-in-laws boat which already has a Humminbird fish finder on it. But I got no interference from the Humminbird and Garmin showed everything that the Humminbird did. I did use the mapping feature on the Garmin too and it seemed to do a great job with that. The lake I was on is over 1200 acres so I did not get to map a lot of the lake but while we were trolling for Muskies and Northerns the Garmin was mapping. The GPS worked great as you would expect from Garmin. Overall I am very pleased with the Garmin Striker Plus 4. I was worried about the 4 inch screen being too small for me. Would the 5 inch be better? Yes but since I didn't have enough money to buy the 5 inch model I had to get the 4 inch which turned out to be big enough especially when I will be using it for ice fishing mostly and sitting fairly close to it. It cost less, even with the portable kit, than a new flasher for ice fishing and I can use it for open water too. It has a ton more features than your standard ice fishing flasher and performs just as good. ... show more

  • Not Happy But Good Customer Service Saved The Day!
Style: Fishfinder
Update Below: Very disappointed. I used this one time and it worked great. I tried to use again today and I get an error message that the transducer is not connected. I checked all the wiring and pin connections and everything is good. No issues with anything except cannot get transducer to connect. Guess I'll have to call Garmin Support. A new transducer is half the cost of a new unit and I hate to have to buy one since I've only had the unit since February 2023. Update: I am returning my complete Unit and Garmin is sending me another complete Unit. Jeff at Garmin was great! I got a little frustrated with their automated system and call was dropped a few times but Jeff handled my issue promptly. I did not like the fact I had to pay part of the price for the new unit before they would send it and credit me once they received mine but I do understand their position. The big pain was having to disassemble my unit to return it and having to reassemble, register it and update Active Captain App when the new unit arrives. I rated 4 stars more so for Garmin standing behind their product. I understand these are sensitive electronic parts and it appears I just got a bad one with the first order. I hope the new transducer holds up. ... show more

  • Easy to use
Style: Fishfinder
My husband has been wanting a new fish finder and this one works great. It’s easy to use and very helpful and simple to hook up. We use it every time we go fishing and we have been successful with finding fish. It also helps to see what’s under the water so we don’t mess up our boat.

  • Outstanding. The Quickdraw mapping is the bomb!
Style: Fishfinder
This is an outstanding fishfinder for the price. It has lots of great features and comes with lots of mounting hardware for multiple configurations for the included transducer. For us, the Quickdraw mapping feature is the outstanding feature on this particular model. It allows you to map your lake, pond, river with contour lines and custom color coding. It does this automatically as you fish or cruise around and over time gets more and more detailed. You don't have to be on the Quickdraw screen to have it mapping in background. It also has a split screen feature on a number of functions, and you can configure that as vertical or horizontal split. We almost always use a split screen with sonar view on the right and quickdraw map on the left, so we can see below us and see ahead as far as depth we are in and headed to. Full zoom functions and panning on map. It is awesome and well worth the price differential from the regular Striker 4 for us. On higher level models, you can upload and download the Quickdraw maps, but not on this model, just FYI. We can't believe we waited so long for this super reasonably priced upgrade to our 15 year old fishfinder. ... show more
