  • Great unit packed with one big feature.
Big value and tech in a nice little unit. I wanted to actually use it on the water before giving it a review. I have this unit mounted on the dash of my bass boat and the base model "Striker 4" on my trolling motor. They look exactly alike and work the same, but the "Striker 4cv" has the one big different feature. The Clear Vu is great. I was really impressed by the clarity. Passing over stumps and shrubbery are no longer red blobs and bumps, but a silhouette of an actual, recognizable object. At first, I had my doubts, but fishing over a spot I always fish, I found I was passing over a ton of trees I never knew about. I saw them by passing over in Clear Vu mode and saw what was clearly a sunken tree. Side imaging would have been nice, but I believe those are available in the bigger screen models. I still love this one though. Transducer is available to mount on hull or trolling motor. I would recommend this to anyone in the market for a nice, little depth finder. ... show more

  • Great system! Here's how to install it on a small boat
I'm going to skip adding another excellent review to this little jewel, which it deserves (it has all the tricks of Striker 4 but the ClearVu is worth the extra $50 for sure). Instead I'm gonna show how you can install it as I did in a raggedy old aluminum fishing/hunting boat that I love. First go to the electrical supply store and get a 6x6 waterproof plastic junction box. Then get a 12 v sealed lead acid battery (7 amp-hours or so) that will fit in it. Buy a foot or so of number 16 red and black wire, some spade clips (male and female to fit the terminals on the battery), and a two circuit terminal strip (it will have four screws). You can also get all this stuff on at one time on Amazon. Connect the spade clips to one end of each wire, connect the other end to the terminal, and connect the Striker power supply cable to the corresponding color (red to red, black to black) on the terminal strip. Then drill a couple of holes in the top of the box to hold the terminal strip, and bolt it in. Drill a 3/8 hole in a corner of the box for the power supply cable. Stick that cable out through that hole and seal it with clear silicon caulk. Drill holes in the top of the box for the Striker mounting base and bolt that in. Make sure it is positioned so you can slide the rest of the base in and out. Install the box on the boat (see pic), connect the battery wires to the battery terminals (red to red, etc), put the battery in the box (I put some foam rubber under and on the sides of the battery to cushion it - probably overkill), Neatly (😉) cram the wires into the top of the box and close it. Slip the Striker into the mount, plug the power and transducer cables into it, and turn it on! You're in business! ... show more

  • Very nice unit
Very nice unit. Does everything described. Description was accurate regarding display clarity. With this unit, fish are no longer a blip and obstructions are shown perfectly. We could see stumps, grass beds logs etc. Only issue I have is the wires are not long enough for larger boats limiting your mounting locations. ... show more

  • nice
U it works really well. transducer mounted on transom pretty easy, thought the holes didnt seem to match the hummingbird transducer. but all good. I just patched up old holes with some quick marine tex and mounted this one. the transducer was longer than expected, but a lot of function. the screen is easy to see even in strong sunlight. the chirp is pretty loud. the mount hardware is easy and functional whether I'm sitting or standing. all I'm all, glad I got this unit. GPS is nice, overlay data is helpful, and depth is accurate, battery voltage also a nice touch. doesnt take a lot of space. Ya, I like this unit and recommend especially for small boats with limited room. ... show more

  • Perfect kayak fish finder
Love the size and shape. I mounted it on my kayak right between my knees. It's out of the way and I can see the everything. I bath mounted the transducer in the front of the hull and it works perfectly I've been in lakes over 100 feet deep and could still see what was going on down there. I highly recommend this fish finder. It's easy to use and works great in a kayak ... show more

  • Works well as a secondary or main unit.
I have two units on my boat. One larger unit with the transducer mounted on the transom and the Striker 4 transducer is on the trolling motor. I find it works very well no matter if I am trolling with the gas or the electric motor I have an idea what is going on around or below the boat. The striker 4 is small but still gives a very good picture and it is easy to use. ... show more

I read all the reviews between this and the standard display and chose this as I preferred the high resolution read out. Havent caught any more fish but I like being able to see what is really on the bottom. If I could afford it I would have gotten the larger display but this unit is easy to store and works quite nicely for what I want as a portable unit. ... show more

  • Doesn't even turn on!!! No help from Garmin!
I got this for my husband to use on our pontoon. Because he directions were so confusing, we waited until we stored our boat at a facility for winter for them to attach it. They attached it and then tried to turn the device on and it wouldn't turn on. When they called Garmin for product support, Garmin wouldn't help them and said the purchaser had to call. This makes no sense since the product is not in front of us and we cannot troubleshoot it. Horrible item, horrible directions, and horrible customer service. ... show more
