I would have sent this thing back on the first day I had it but Garmin has acquired all the competitors and killed them forming a monopoly on GPS devices. I have spent ALL DAY trying to get the web app to work with my cell phone to work with the Montana. Finally got it to do one basic function, sync after two calls to customer support. Trying to learn to do routes on the web app, I am beginning to suspect you can't do routes but nothing says "you can't do routes on the web app." This whole experience has been frustrating, time consuming, draining. Having an expensive GPS toy should be fun not an ordeal. I might just box it up and send it back to Amazon and just use Google maps. If you had told me last week I would hate a company more than Google i.e. Garmin, I would have told you that you were silly. ... show more

Bought this as a renewed unit. I did not have any trouble getting it up and running and used it a few times and really liked it. But, then I noticed that the map did not have some of the trails that my older Garmin GPS had. After spending some time in conversation with Garmin, it turns out that the map data was an old version from 2010. And the Garmin Express software that should check for newer versions of the map and install them, was telling me erroneously that everything was up to date. The map version should have been updateing to version 2023.10 (This was written in 2/2024). So rather than continue to trouble shoot this issue with Garmin and miss my return window, I returned the unit with only a few days to spare. What bothers me is the Garmin Express software kept telling me the unit was up to date and everything was functioning fine. If I hadn't come across the fact that some trails were missing, I would have kept the unit beyond it's return date, and then what... who knows. So not happy with Garmin software that can't see its own errors, and not happy with the Amazon refurbished guarantee that it was refurbished "completely". But I am happy that all this happened before my return date, and that Amazon, did honor a return without a lot of hassle. ..... So, in reality, I will exchange for another refurbished and hopefully not get another lemon. ..... TBD..... :( Update. bought 2nd unit. It also is defective. This one came with the 2020.10 map set. Even though it was a newer map set than the first one I bought, the unit did not update to the current map set of 2023.10. Bottom line. DO NOT BUY. DO NOT BUY. DO NOT BUY. DO NOT BUY. ... show more
