  • Neat but missing Android features
The surfline sessions feature is iOS only. Crazy to think it in this day and age.

  • Awesome
I waited to get a smart watch that had tide information. This is the answer as a boater. The battery lasts a realistic 2 weeks in the winter, but hopefully longer with outdoor activity (sunlight) in the summer. Only downfall is the green bleeds off onto the white band, probably from the chlorine in my hot tub? That’s the only reason for 4 stars. ... show more

  • Solid watersports watch
I was debating between this and an Apple Watch for water sports. I ultimately chose the Garmin for the following reasons - (1) longer battery life (with the kindle-like digital paper screen + solar charging, I can go a week or more without worrying about cable charging; (2) more waterproof and shock-resistant (I've gone through 3 other watches that have gotten flooded while windsurfing; this one is rated more waterproof and feels quite solid); (3) easier to read the screen in bright sunlight (the Apple Watch is a more beautiful and vivid screen....but all that goes out the door in bright sunlight...the Garmin screen is way easier to read. The only reason I gave the Garmin 4 starts instead of 5 is that the menu/button navigation is not super intuitive...it is feature-rich but it takes awhile to get everything dialed in the way you want it. ... show more

  • Don't buy it for the surf app, the rest works fine
3 stars because the surf function is useless. Else it is a great watch. The surf app does not do what it should. I assume it works off of GPS only with no gyro to support it which results in completely unusable surf tracking. You lose GPS when you put your hand under water (obviously) and the resolution is too small for the tight turns and short distances during surfing. The results are funny at times (I surfed 44mph - for sure) but always nonsense (zig-zagging when it jumps from one low resolution GPS point to the next). The rest is really good. It has some rudimentary smart watch features like you can read sms. The climbing app is useful for tracking altitude. All the other functions work really well and the solar cell does actually give you some extra battery life (which is good to begin with). If you use it for surfing, the thing that works well too is the tide function, it will show the tide for your current location which is useful as opposed to having to pick one from a list like in more traditional tide watches. ... show more

  • Harmon Instinct Solar surf review
I have been trying few smart watches and always have been interested by the self sustaining ones. Instinct solar surf battery lasts more than 2 weeks, gps is pretty accurate, heart rate works sensor works very well and has very useful functions for most sports, not only water ones. I do recommend it, best smart watch I’ve had so far and you almost forget about charging it! Cheers Ps I got an after market green watch band ... show more

  • Great surf tracker
Easy to read display. Wave tracking is hit or miss, it captured one wave I was on, 2 I wasn’t. I can’t expect it to accurately track every wave, but a fun gadget. Bike ride tracking is accurate. Haven’t yet got it to track sleep pattern, I’ve worn it twice overnight and it couldn’t tell I was sleeping. ... show more
