It's an excellent divice. Good reception with gps, glonass and Galileo. The only problem that I've been found is that it doesn't connect with GPS, glonass and Galileo at same time, you have chose between GPS + Galileo or GPS + glonass. The battery duration time is excelent, with a 2500 mhn battery you can use the divice for 8 hours without down. A bad point is the connectivity with wikiloc, it's some difficult because you have to pair with the phone and also you have to connect to wireless and in addition to this you have to create an account in garmin connect. Alder you do this when you finally sincroniced your tracks or routes the photos and way point were not transferred to the divice. ... show more

Ihad multiple issues loading and exploring content on the gps. -accuracy was excellent. When tracking and locating it's deadly accurate and so much more consistent than any other device i had to test it against. but -it crashes. seemingly a lot. I even lost a track once. i can't trust it enough to depend on it. Therefore useless as a outdoor GPS... -it's clunky. really clunky. menus and panning just arent fast enough once you load in a few overlays. i don't mind the lack of touch screen but it's a big mess of menus. the profiles system tries to simplyfy things but it just gets in the way and you end up building a custom profile that has everything you need (and plenty you dont) -a phone can do a better job for 90% of uses. it's hard to justify. -auto geocache download is largely a waste of time. -bluetooth is a big missed opportunity, why do i get phone notifications yet can't easily use BT for so many other forms of data transfer..... - birdseye data is ancient. i ended up building my own imagery from open data sources. ... show more

Do not read the negative reviews. I have no idea if they are correct or not, but software version 3.0 is on mine and the unit is flawless! It does everything right, screen is awesome, and all functions are great. Aquires Sat's in seconds. Is it different than the 60 series? of course. I love my 60 too. but it is light years advanced from there. And the bigger screen is super sharp and clear. I bought a 64 for 1 day because of the negative reviews of the 66. Hated it. sent it back for 66. Glad I did. ... show more

    • Warning. Please read before purchasing
I am a beleaguered Garmin gpsmap fan. My first was a 60s and I was hooked. It was the best ever. It seems that with every new model, the handheld gps from garmin was worse than the last. Generally speaking, after the 60cs, the features and ability is better. But in terms in quality, and reliability, the successive models have been declining. So, what happens is. A new "better than ever model" is available. And the hardware is there, but the software that runs it, is a complete joke. If your lucky, the subsequent updates that comes along, takes many months to get it functioning correctly. But that is not a guarantee. I've owned the 60, 62, and 64. The 60, being the best. So, regarding the newest model, the GPSMAP 66s, it is horrible. There is a lot capabilities. But some of them do not not work. The most basic function, searching for an address, and navigating to it. I can confirm to you that the 66S can not do it. WOW! It's a software glitch that needs to be fixed. This has been an issue for months., but there is still no fix. So, hardware wise, this is an impressive device. Feels good in the hands. Not too big, great screen size. Software wise, it's terrible. It"s really bad. Maybe wait 6 or 9 months before buying. Garmin is on software version 2.5 as of this review. 02/2019. And version 2.5 terrible. Not sure who is writing the code fore this device, but they are definitely learning on the job. And they have a long ways to go. Don't say I didn't warn you first, if you buy one. The 66s is garmins darkest hour...... They rushed this thing to market way too fast. (So disappointed) UPDATE: Getting close, but still significant problems. There is a site online that you can check, to see what sort of progress has been made on the software updates . If you search for the words GPSrchive, 66, and issues, you will find a complete analysis of this item. Short assessment is, not good. Very recently I updated the software from version 3.1 to 4.2. Then took the ole 66s to the mountains. I have to report that it is now functional. It went all weekend with locking up only twice. If the GPSMAP 66s didn’t have removable batteries, it would literally turn into a permanent brick within days of using it. (Something to think about when considering one of their gpsr’s with built in rechargeable batts) While it was running, it performed ok. I got to see what it could do. But it should not be locking up. Please note that I did not exercise all the features of this device. Only the basics. Bluetooth, and Wifi was switched off the whole time. I was finally able to enter in addresses, and navigate to them. (The reply below from Garmin was disappointing. Either they were insulting my intelligence, being purposefully misleading, or denying the fact that this device has serious software issues.) So, my recommendation is to still wait (as of 06/2020) for a few more revisions. I really wish they would take the Altimeter code from the 60cs, and use that instead. Since the 60cs, it’s not been very good. One more comment. Garmin manufactures Flight Navigation Avionics, which obviously has to pass FAA certification. I wish they put as much effort into these GPS Handhelds, as they are forced to do for their Avionics equipment. ... show more

    • Don’t rely on GPSMAP 66 to get you through long treks in the
First impression - connection with Bluetooth went smooth, but showed connected in my gps. This is a serious learning curve interfacing with Garmin Connect, but it works. Bluetooth sucks up battery life. Extending battery life requires expedition mode and other energy saving settings recommended by Garmin. Birdseye server is not consistently available and you need a strong signal Birdseye imagery sucks! Garmin for those outside CONUS, we need another mapping system already loaded vs base camp and Birdseye I recommend Google Map for global use, the extra cost would be worth it vs the headache of loading maps from online sources onto the gps ... show more
