Review of the Garmin 255s Music version (Wrist size 6in) (size small) It was very hard to find a reasonably sized watch for my small wrist. I was looking at this one and the Google Pixel 2. Those were the smallest watches I could find. They’ve been making watches bigger and bigger and I hate the new trend. The battery is fantastic. I came from the Fitbit Versa 2, though it got the white screen of death and never turned back on. After it dying not too long after the warranty was over I decided to look elsewhere. There were several reason I decided for the Garmin over Fitbit again other than its untimely death. Garmin offers a much more robust app, and is much more fitness oriented, offering more activities. Garmin is much better at up keeping the OS system. I didn’t even really consider Apple because I didn’t want to our purchase an Apple phone. Other than that was Samsung, and they keep pushing watches ending their support sooner than I wanted. The pixilation could be better, and the color saturation of faces is dull. This is what keeps the battery running longer though. The watch has a better face in natural lighting than artificial lighting. Theres multiple different apps and this is the Android of smartwatches with a lot of customization. The features I use the most are the Body battery, and my sleep monitor. Playing music drains the battery fast. I still use it anyway, something though to keep in mind. While its annoying there is more than one app, its not impossible. The watch is more compatible with Microsoft computers. When Ive accidentally taken a screenshot I had to connect it to a Microsoft to delete it. I do agree the Music application is definitely outdated and clunky. I personally would get the music version again though. Theres a few smaller things I like, like that it asks your bedtime and then turns off always on display, and has morning updates that informs you of the weather, time slept, etc. ... show more

I've had a Forerunner 45 for about 5 years. I used it strictly to track my running activities and nothing more. I tried to use it as a daily smart watch but I found the battery to be insufficient for that. I recently was looking around at new watches and saw the Forerunner 165 released mid February 2024. After tons of research, I ended up going with the 255s specifically because its' currently on sale (18 March) and at the same exact cost of a Forerunner 165. It has been everything I was looking for. I use it as a daily watch to track heart rate/sleep. I DO NOT have any phone notifications set up on my watch. My phone goes off enough, I don't care to be staring at my wrist all day as well. This watch has all the sexy features I need to analyze everything about my running activities. I've worn the watch for 3 days and its at 74% battery. My Forerunner 45 would have been dead by now or close to it. The only negative I'd say are the color combinations. I wanted an all black watch but its only available in the music version and not the non-music version...$50 difference. I will NEVER play music through my watch as I run with my phone as is and I'm positive that playing the music will eat up more battery. I wanted black so I paid the extra $50 for music version. I'm not thrilled about that but otherwise, this is a great watch. I went with the "S" version because the 45 is a smaller watch and I like smaller watches. The wrist band fits ok but is shorter than my 45 wrist band so I've ordered an aftermarket band to fix that. The Ritche Silicone Watch Bands come with 2 lengths for the 18mm band which has complimented this watch very well. ... show more

After a few months of researching, and after trying out and not really enjoying an Instinct Solar (garmin) watch...I settled on this forerunner. I'm so glad I did. I'm no pro-athlete but regularly go on hikes and have started easing into running. This watch has a program to train - kind of like couch to 5k - and it's really great. The interface is easy to use, and easy to view (the Instinct was always so dark and hard to navigate). I got the smaller version, I have small wrists/hands and this is a perfect size. I did get watch face protectors too, as I'm clumsy and slam into things often so I've had quite a few cracked screens. Again, the brightness of the screen, easy navigation and customization are fantastic so I would absolutely recommend this watch. ... show more

Having this watch has made me much more thoughtful about my workouts. I'm seeing pretty substantial improvements to my pace and ability to run long distances. That probably would have happened regardless, given my current lifestyle. But I truly think it wouldn't be as fast or as fun without this thing. The metrics that this watch gives me in real time during runs helps me understand my running in a way I never have before.
