    • A watch for a photographer
I'm a professional outdoor landscape and astrophotographer (pictures of stars and moon) who lives on the coast. There are a lot of variables/data that I have to juggle on a regular basis to find opportunities for unique photos including the tide, the moon phases, sunrise/sunset, weather, and positioning data. Being able to have access to all of that data on my wrist out in the field is an absolute game changer. I love the customization this watch offers. Although it's built as more of a fitness tracker/training device, I disabled all of the health tracking/sleep tracking and heart rate monitoring functions because frankly I just don't care about that stuff. I would rather have the additional battery life that those sensors take up. I also have the watch set to go into power saver mode from 12 a.m - 5 a.m. when I'm typically sleeping. And so far I couldn't be happier with the battery life. I'm on pace to get around 22-23 days on the 1st charge. So far I'm at 15 days with 27% battery left on the 1st charge, and that was with updating the watch and setting it up/downloading apps and customizing the hot keys a few times. Since the watch will be completely setup on the 2nd charge I suspect I will get closer to 30 days with the current setup (and who knows with solar charging). I love how rugged the watch is and was pleasantly surprised at how light it is. For the size of it, I would think it would have been heavier. I like that this watch doesn't have a touch screen and prefer the tactile buttons that Garmin implemented. The watch fits well, despite my smaller wrists. The screen is more than bright enough to see in bright daylight. I have mine set at 40% in daylight and it's more than enough. I can also see the screen with polarized sunglasses on which was in issue with another smartwatch that was unforeseen. I'm a little on the fence about the solar charging. I haven't tested it thoroughly, but the watch shows it's getting sun, but it's hard to measure how much if affects the actual battery life, as others have commented. Considering it's December right now in North America, the sun is at it's absolute weakest/lowest point in the sky. This could very well be an issue for the watch. It will be interesting to see if there is a more measurable difference when summer rolls around. The Garmin IQ Connect Store leaves a lot to be desired. The most disappointing thing about it for me is that Garmin's own native apps (which they wrote for their own device) are some of the lowest rated, buggiest ones on the platform. Also, for the average user, getting some of the apps to function may be a headache. The app ecosystem is not mature or streamlined like you would find in iOS store or Android. There are many old, buggy apps and watchfaces that may or may not work. Generally sticking to the most popular/higher rated ones offers the best reliability. Overall, as a professional landscape photographer, I love this watch for it's ruggedness, battery life, customization and apps (despite some limitations). ... show more

I had the Vivoactive 3 before this and it was a nice watch but the battery life became too short after a few years. Upgraded to this and battery life issues are gone. I charge this once a week maybe and even then it has plenty left. Great features for off-road mountain biking. Love it.

    • The Fenix 6X Pro Solar is a really amazing device-- or not, updated 11/30/21
I find the features pretty amazing, especially all of the feedback data I receive. It's really motivating to have that real time data on your runs. However, I primarily chose this device because I'm training toward running ultras and wanted to have the best battery life and the best tracking capabilities on trail runs. Also using it for cycling and kayaking. Haven't quite figured out how to make the most of it in the gym for strength training but I'm still very happy with it. UPDATE: After nearly two years, I do not recommend this device nor the brand. Most of the sensors stopped working within a few weeks and I was never able to discover out how to get ahold of Garmin to return it or get it repaired. I wanted to get readings for pace, elevation, cadence, blood O2, steps, etc. But I get either inaccurate or nil readings. The pace reading is spotty as the GPS drops out frequently. Given the cost, I'm not going to dump it and in this condition I can't sell it. I've lived with it as is and got a HR monitor to go across my chest. It's really a $200 watch that cost me $1000. ... show more

    • Nice Watch But Face Scratches EASY
I owned a Fenix3HR Sapphire for about 5 years and upgraded to this. The larger face is nice along with some new bells and whistles. Battery life is no better than the 3 even with the solar gimmick, probably worse. I'm assuming this glass is softer than the sapphire. My old watch never got one face scratch in the 5 years I owned it. This is not the same. Still a good watch but have been more conscious of when not to wear it. ... show more

I love this watch! I had an Apple Watch 4 Series and this thing is so much more capable. Granted it doesn't connect in all the same ways to my iPhone as the Apple Watch did, but the Garmin Connect app does a pretty good job. Honestly, you can see almost all the info on the watch itself so I don't go to the Connect app much really. You can download and configure watch faces and widget from the Garmin Connect IQ app. Lots of options! The battery life is amazing, especially when compared to my Apple Watch which had to be charged every night. This isn't touch screen so that took some getting used to using the buttons on the side but it isn't hard to pick up. I really enjoy the customizable activity screens. You can change them to display the information that is important to you. One thing about the Apple Watch that was nice is that it would notice that I was walking outside (or inside) and ask if I wanted to log a workout. I haven't noticed that feature on the Garmin. It would be nice as I sometimes forget to start the activity. I'm looking forward to using it for some other activities like hiking, fishing and golfing once it starts to warm up here in Colorado. I was between this and the Polar Grit Pro X. I really liked the look of the copper one, I am happy with my choice to go with the Garmin though. ... show more
