  • Essential Everyday Watch. Tons of useful features, and looks great with a variety of casual outfits.
I'm a fan of watches, and always have been. Still prefer them as the primary means to tell time, rather than pulling out the phone. Was looking for a new watch for use with athletic and/or adventurous activities to compliment a beloved Luminox and G-Shock Frogman. Was specifically looking at Garmins because I wanted a GPS watch with modern and useful features. I had no desire for an Apple or Samsung one because it was intended to be able to stand up to actual rigorous use, and not just another means to read texts messages, require frequent charging, or essentially being another extension of the phone. Extremely happy with the Garmin Instinct. Went with the Tundra White color, which looks great whether it comes to gym wear or casual outfits. Have dressed it up with jeans and blazers, and still had compliments. Packed with useful features (many more than I've even used), and pairs up well with a Garmin App on your mobile device that can be used to track activities such as run routes, exercise times, and sleep patterns to name a few. Main features that I use are tracking running activity/routes as well as active minutes per week. Features that I really enjoy having is that the watch can easily provide your coordinates, compass bearing, and elevation in the event of an emergency. Taken it underwater many times, no issues and easy to read. Battery life is great, when using normally I will typically charge it about every 10 days, that's also without letting it run all the way to empty too. Bumped it on hard surfaces a few times, and never had to worry. There are models that can be charged with solar power too (about +$100 more), but opted for a non solar model only because they did not make a solar model in this Tundra White color. ... show more

  • Best watch on the market!
So it' been almost 6 months since I've been using the Instinct and I can tell you folks I own a lot of different watches and of all the watchs I have, Garmin Instinct is simply the best. Below are some of the positive and negative points that I believe are worth mentioning if you are planning on buying one. Positive Points : - It is built to the U.S. military standard 810 for thermal, shock and water resistance. ( 100 meters water resistance ) - It has Altimeter, Barometer, Compass and Thermometer ( measurements have been pretty accurate ) - It has a monochrome, sunlight-visible display so the screen is easily readable under sunlight. - It has GPS, GLONASS and GALILEO ( most of the Fenix series and handheld gps units on the market do not have all them together, so this is a great feature ) - Its battery goes for 14 days in a smartwatch mode ( I was tired of charging my previous smartwatches every single day or two. So, forget about charging your watch every single day when you get the Instinct ) - It's lightweight. ( Folks you will never realize that you have this watch on your wrist most of the time as it only weighs 52 gr ) - It has all the sports that I need - It has a Track Back function. ( This is a great feature if you believe that you might get lost during hiking or trekking or if you wanna create your own route in a trail and wanna make sure that you get back to the base camp safely. ) - It has a storm alert ( if you are out in the field or hiking, then this watch will warn you if there is any radical change it weather ) - It has sunrise and sunset - It can show the moon phases - You get notifications and calls from your cell phone. - It can actually vibrate every hour just to warn you. - It measures your heart rate and body battery - Its strap is pretty long so that you can also wear it on your coat or jacket easily. - You can change the song on your cell phone from Instinct. - It can also show your GPS location. Negative Points: - I wish the screen would be a bit bigger - I wish it had solar charging. - Vo2 Max ( I'm not big on this at all, but still wanted mention it ) I own s3 frontier and active 2. They are all great watches but after a while, you will get tired of looking at a smartwatch that has the same display with your cell phone and charging it every single day or two. So Instinct has pretty much all the features that a smartwatch can provide but with a cooler display that doesn't tire your eyes and 14 days of battery. I also own Casio Rangeman GW 9400, and I think it is also one of the best watches on the market as well. It has ABC and Solar charging features which are pretty awesome. But considering the GPS and many other features of Garmin, I would still go with the Instinct. ... show more

  • Fantastic and durable watch
I've tried other models, I'm active I'm always worried they will break. This thing can take a beating. I've had it on my wrist when things have hit my arm and bruised my arm but the watch is unfazed. You can totally get the 3 dollar watch cover, but I haven't and no scratches are present despite the watch being covered in mud and being tossed around. I also love the battery life. I only charge it for like an hour every week or two. I was a little upset when I could not access Garmin IQ, but at the end of the day, I do not need the apps on the app. It does well with sleep tracking (when the server is up). I think my only gripes about the watch are that I have to be connected to the internet to receive weather updates (I would pay for GPS to beam it to the watch) and you have to be connected to the internet for the graphing it does tracking average heart rate, sleep steps ext. If you are active outside and off-grid I do not think there is a better smartwatch on the market. Features you definitely need to check out when you buy it: Garmin Express allows you to draw waypoints and upload it to your watch. There you can ensure you are staying on course. GPS does suck down the battery life quickly, but it charges so easily if you have a small solar panel to keep your headlamp charged, it would keep this charged as well. Not to mention it would track a very long day of physical activity with GPS activated. ... show more
