Tack🐺 has the ability to probe minds, erase memories, and insert false memories, even in minds supposedly protected by artificial barriers. I loved this book! Tack and Sayal were both wonderfully interesting, funny, snarky and at times so unexpected. There were times I wanted to smack Sayal and tell her to stop being an idiot, but it wouldn't have helped since she wouldn't even listen to Tack when he tried to tell her that her plan had huge holes in it. I really liked Tack. She was so lucky to have him with her. He was part Syndicate, part pirate, part prisoner, a very strong telepath and a strong loving alpha. Perfect for keeping her from dying to complete her task. I found this book very enjoyable.

Tack and Sayal are so hot as a couple. A must-read in this genre. Can't wait for the next book. I volunteered to read a copy for an honest review.

Tack had a varied life growing up half orphan but with a loving mother who gave her life to help others he went from orphanages to prison farms but had inherited amazing telepathic skills and other abilities and eventually went from space freighter cabin boy to captain to captain of a star fighter wing in the Syndicated Colonies fighting against the Federated Colonies. This was so far into time that Earth was hardly able to be found. Betrayed Tack finds himself in a prison nozzle given the task of creating holos and virtual sex designs for all kinds of humanoids. Since there were very few humans the virt=sex was for the aliens and to fit their various sexual organs but the ideal was always sex with the human form even if never attainable. One day after 3 years and becoming the top designer Tack is visited by a beautiful human who wants him to design a vsr for her fiancée the son of the principal don of one of the outer worlds. This is only the beginning leading to her having simulated sex with Tack in the cell to make the video and then buying his release in order to deliver the vst to her fiancée. But it is a poison pill and on the long voyage to Garland this couple fall in love. Incredibly imaginative worldbuilding, bovine enemies and settling of old scores with deadly enemies make this an exciting suspenseful romance. And yes, with erotic sensual steam. This seems to be a debut for this writer whom we will have to follow in future. Given to me as an ARC I have voluntarily reviewed.

Sometimes it's so bizarre to me how the blurb that describes a book can be simultaneously accurate but also inaccurate. For this book, yes, the blurb is accurate - we follow the adventures (or mis-adventures!) of Tack and Sayal, and the backstory provided for Tack is true - he IS a refugee that was sold into slavery and forced to work for a syndicate of gangsters who set him up and ended him in prison, and his prison work is to design virtual sex scenes for paying customers. But, there's just so much.... MORE... to this story, and the blurb misses all of it! I understand why, and I don't fault the author for not giving away all the punchlines in the blurb, but it definitely is something that tickles my funny bone when I think about it. If you read the book that the blurb is describing, it would probably be a downright decent book. But this book is beyond that. It's detailed and intricate and somehow manages to describe a myriad of alien races without making it feel like an encyclopedia. The characters are also more than they're described - Tack isn't just a slave/gangster/convict, he's got a secret (that I refuse to spoil!) and a gift that helps him get by when others might fail. Sayal is also more than she seems, and the two of them together really are more than the sum of their parts. Is this a book for young readers - nope. Sexytimes abound, and it's adult language and situations for everyone, including that myriad of aliens I spoke of earlier. Is it a book for sci-fi fans - absolutely. Is it a book for romance readers - sure, if they can handle the sci-fi aspects. Is it a book for adventure/quest readers - yeah, if they can handle romance and sexytimes. It's honestly hard to say more without giving away some of the great big secrets that make the story truly enjoyable (and for just a tiny tiny hint: if you enjoy seeing morally terrible people get what's coming to them, in a Robin Hood-style fashion, you will enjoy this tale!) - but I can say that if you read it, you'll likely enjoy the humor, the detail, the characters, and the world-building as much as I did. ~I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review~
