  • An excellent find
Format: Kindle
Play must admit The title started to put me off. Don't get me wrong, I am religious in my own way,, Bye it is a deeply personal matter. I digress. This story is an excellent example of how our young people can be challenged by a life changing event. Believe me a 2 mile wide hunk of nickel iron rock hitting our planet will be a near extinction event. One item the story understates is the lack of preparation the general population has. They have become over dependent upon the government to take care of them. In such a situation, I wish I had their trust. What I got from this story is the agency I can depend on has only one person on staff. I see him every day in the mirror---he has my best interests at heart. I am not into "prepping" to most people the brings to mind some cretinious individual who measures their worth in how many or not big their guns are. Instead, I prefer to embrace the concept of "prudent precautions" which should a catastrophic event occur, it will give me my most valuable assets time to think. Enough editorializtion (if that is a word??????) Good story, well written and yeah the hero gets a kiss. Love it. More please??? Bill Hodges ... show more

  • Good book- but spelling errors galore
Format: Paperback
If you can look past glaring grammatical and spelling errors, this is a great book. I loved the storyline and the premise behind it. The author has an interesting writing style where the book alternates between the two main characters points of view. It’s a pretty quick moving book. Which I appreciate. Im not sure that anyone proofread this book. But once i turned it into a game of circling the errors I found, it was really good! I may try one of his other books ... show more

  • Great Storyline
Format: Kindle
I've seen several apocalyptic movies - some very realistic. The storyline here is very believable except an asteroid as big as the one cited in the book would have probably had much more serious consequences.

  • A good apocalyptic novel
Format: Kindle
I really enjoyed this book about 2 teenagers who had to make their way from Seattle to northern Idaho, after the main character (Ryan) received warning from his father in California that an asteroid was going to crash down into the Pacific Ocean in a short time. I was not too clear where exactly the asteroid hit, but it resulted in an EMP that effected every area this two traveled, widespread earthquakes, and a mile high tsunami that went pretty far inland. The characters were believable. They gathered people together as they traveled east to Ryan's grandfather's house- a secluded farm in the woods, with streams and rivers, wild game, and lots of jars of veggies and fruit put up in the basement. There is suspense and adventure, with violence that is bound to happen in an apocalyptic novel but without being graphically described. I live in northern Idaho and I am familiar with eastern Washington, so it was fun to recognize various towns and landmarks. I did wonder, given the author's background, why he didn't mention the military stepping in during the crisis, since Fairchild AFB is at the western edge of Spokane. It was my understanding that they had some equipment that was shielded from the effects of an EMP. Ryan realizes that cities are death traps when technology no longer works, so all that he wants to do is get his band of people, that he has come to care about, to the safety of his grandpa's rural and sustainable haven where they can hunker down until the dying time is over. ... show more

  • Great read
Format: Kindle
Nate Johnson's books are always enjoyable: decent plots, characters who are likable and make good decisions, and an absence of stupid events that happen just to fix plot holes. I like that the main character in this book is a good responsible young man who takes charge and takes care of others. Nate Johnson's characters are usually excellent role models for the way young men and women should conduct themselves. These books do contain a lot of typos, homonym errors, basic grammar errors, etcetera, and could use some proof reading and editing. ... show more

  • Well written if you overlook all the mistakes (HIRE A PROOFREADER!)
Format: Kindle
This book is great and so well written, but I can't justify 5 stars because of all of the spelling mistakes. It's hard to be an indie author but please spend the money to get a proofreader. I read two more in the series, and it gets worse with each one. I counted 47 simple mistakes in the second book and almost didn't finish it. This author has talent I just wish he would do what it takes to make the book professional. The cover designs are good so why not at the very least get someone to proof it before publication. ... show more

  • Good reading
Format: Kindle
A gripping story with good character building. I look forward to reading the rest of the story in the next book.

  • An OK novel, with predictable characters and stortline
Format: Kindle
First, there’s nothing wrong about this book, it’s entertaining reading and filled empty time over a couple of days. I felt the story was predictable at key points, and the main characters needed more development, which may or may not be included in the next book? If you want a relatively lightweight book that’s easy to read and not overly dark or foreboding, this novel will fit the bill. ... show more
