  • Very unique story, great writing.
Format: Kindle
This book is written very well, and the story is unique and interesting. I really enjoyed it. It’s got smut, but it’s not overpowering and only about sex, which some books tend to do. I can’t wait to read the next one.

  • 4.5 stars
Format: Kindle
This is my 1st Olympia Black book. I truly enjoyed the story. It engrossed me, made me laugh a few times, and cry too. The emotions of the characters shine through the page. It is a good book. I will read a few of the other works by the author as well. It is a stand alone with a HEA. Though the ending is left up to your imagination a bit more than many other authors do. The book is about Ensley the MFC. She is abducted by aliens and sold as a pet. She is luckily for her bought by an Imperial captain named Seb MMC. Seb has wanted a pet for a long time. He has researched about them as much as he could. He is very much looking forward to owning a pet and hoping they will help with crew morale as well. Ensley doesn't know what to expect from the gray skinned human looking alien that has taken her onto his ship. Seb as well as most other aliens believe humans are very simple creatures. They have short memory spans. They don't have complex emotions or understanding. They are barbaric and illogical. They are always wanting to have sex, and will have sex with anyone pretty much. Pets must be trained and a firm hand is needed. Seb is an Imperial. Which is a type of alien. They seem to be very genetically close to humans. Though they are more civilized and superior to humans at least in their beliefs. Imperials are encouraged to breed with humans. It is important they add genetic diversity to their gene pool. Their genes will filter out any undesired human genetics. Imperials have gray skin, dark almost black or green colored eyes, and are hairless. Humans being "furry" is prized by Imperials. The book is the story of what happens to Ensley after she is abducted and later becomes Seb's pet. Ensley is kept on the military ship that Seb is the captain of. Seb and the crew are on a war ship. Though they have not been actively at war in their lifetimes. All the members a of the crew are Imperials like Seb. Ensley and Seb's relationship develops over time. Seb comes to see that Ensley and other humans are more advanced than it is believed. That all the human experts are mistaken in their beliefs about humans. Seb and Ensley grow to care for each other a great deal. Though they never use the word love. It is clear they feel it for each other. The crew cares for Ensley as well. The story does have a few twists. It is mainly about Seb and Ensley's relationship. There are many outside forces that control the relationship in ways. The book is worth checking out. I did enjoy it a good deal. Hope you do too. ... show more

  • Controversial and thought provoking!
Format: Kindle
To be upfront, this was a disturbing read and will not be for everyone. It was well-written, but almost too realistic to be entertaining. I found Ensley to be both at times, coldly pragmatic in her response to her abduction (which I found refreshing) and stupidly slow in her development as Seb's pet. Especially when she was first brought onboard the ship. I also found Seb to be slow, and lacking empathy on many levels; but specifically about the installation of a translation chip. He knew it was a possibility right away and wanted to communicate with his pet, knew he could do it, but still let others talk him out of it until almost the very end. Not believable. I have owned a lot of pets over my life, and never have I treated any of them the way he treated her, this goes to his lack of empathy. And no I don't think any of them are sentient either. I most especially don't allow others to abuse my pet. He abused her on multiple occasions, allowed others to abuse her and treated her after a while like you would a slave. Not a pet. Which indicates that he thought she was sentient but less than, much quicker than the explanation of the author. So even if YOU believe that he believed his government propaganda about her lack of sentience - still we rarely have sex or breed with our pets - unless we are some pretty sick 'puppies'. History has shown that all slave owning societies have both committed sexual congress and produced children with their slaves. His actions make him really stupid or totally lacking empathy. Either is disturbing for a male lead in a romance. Or we can believe something else... As a writer, I found it interesting, but I would place it more in the literary, dark erotic genres. Despite the author's explanation to the contrary at the end of the book (which she was kind enough to provide, and I read) there is no HEA or HFN for the couple - there is one glaring plot hole. How is both Seb and Dylan visiting her on earth if the humans and the IGC didn't sign a treaty? Or are we to imagine that the work in question is totally a work of Ensley's fictional mind done strictly for monetary value and not to be trusted at all (which is a suggestion of the author). On a romance level either action negates a true HEA or HFN. Hmmmm. See what I mean by thought provoking? I rated it three stars because I rarely find a book that made me deeply ponder the subjects the author puts forth. For me it gets points for being well-written, controversial, disturbing and thought provoking. Like I said, this book is not for everyone. If you are wanting romance, it won't be for you at all. To me it was too realistic to be truly entertaining which is what I look for in the romance genre as a reader. ... show more

  • Read Author Notes before the book
Format: Kindle
Black is extremely clever with this book, meaning it is more on the line of what I believe would go down in an alien abduction. There is no easy transition period for the MFC (in my normal growely alien books, they give the MFC an implant translator, so she whip her love interest into shape by chapter four. This isn't that book. There are some triggers people should be aware of. She is kidnapped, caged, and then sold. There are some uncomfortable sexual situations for the MFC that she has to work thru but it was not that graphic or stressful. I think the biggest one is with child abduction, but still, it isn't really kidnapping in the truest form. But, with that said, the book is thought-provoking. The MFC grows so much and becomes such a survivor. The love story is a slow burn, but in the end, it gets there for the couple. They both have lots of growth when they finally understand each other. This is the kind of book you will either love or hate... it isn't a mushy lukewarm read for the faint of hearts. ... show more

  • unique and thought provoking
Format: Kindle
I enjoyed this as unique and thought-provoking. It was more erotica vs a romance, due to the lack of choice she had during most of the book, therefore it couldn’t be a romance. For those that have triggers, violence levels for the MFC were the same as an animal being lightly shocked or spanked. There was non-consensual “petting”, but the MMC initially let her demands control when penetration occurred. The parallels throughout the book of a how a human was being treated constantly made you reflect on our treatment of animals and interpretation of how we feel we are meeting their emotional needs vs what they might truly be feeling. I did not enjoy the authors arrogant and self-righteous notes at the end, where she seems to feel superior by egotistically putting down some of her readers that may not understand the political and cultural depth of her work and its broader connotations …just eww and ick as to her attitude towards us less intellectual readers that are not at her level. However, if you ignore the ugly personality her final notes imply, the story itself is worth reading and reflecting on and I would recommend it to others that want to step outside the typical alien romance genre. ... show more

Ensley gets abducted from Central Park. She doesn't understand what has happened to her. Ugly green aliens force her to get away from the bars of her cage with three other women. Then different aliens start looking at them. One of girls is dragged out and they her away. They are paraded in front of aliens and Ensley is next. A large gray-skinned alien chooses her. She doesn't understand what he is saying, just pointing. Thus begins her life as a " Pet ". Seb has wanted a human as a pet for so long. But she isn't like what he thought. As time goes on, he realizes she is Not stupid or inferior on any way. All of the information he has read is wrong. Especially when their son is taken away from her. Then having pets is illegal, so Seb has to send her back to earth. She doesn't want to go and he doesn't want to let her go. But he does! The ending of the book kind of leaves it up your imagination . Seb and the boy shows up in her apartment a few years later. So, you can imagine how it ends. I choose to believe that she goes back with them, as his wife! This is definitely an adult only book with lots of sex. I really enjoyed reading this book. This is a new author for me, but I plan to look her up on Amazon. ... show more

  • I regret buying, but you may not
Format: Kindle
This book i only finished to see how it ended. The s*x scenes are trash, the main character is thoroughly unlikable and the ending was lazy. It wasnt altogether terrible, only where it mattered. Theres also this little afterward where the author explains things about the book she thinks you might be too dumb to pick up on and assert herself as having moral high ground. Its painfully, condescendingly cringe. Ive definitely read worse, but i think you could definitely find better. ... show more

  • Good idea, but poorly executed
Format: Kindle
Let me preface this with the fact that this is the very first negative review I’ve ever written. This book had so much potential, it was such a good idea. I’ve read lots of other pet themed sci-fi that can be silly or dark and I accept them all. But I was so disappointed in this book. I had to force myself to keep reading. When I made it to the 30% mark I couldn’t take anymore. The only way I can think of to explain the style of writing is extremely juvenile and overly straight to the point. No depth or emotion in anything, the descriptions or the fmc’s internal monologue. Here’s a gem of a paragraph in chapter 3 “They begin to pet me. At first, it’s just on my head and back, but then they begin to touch other parts of my body. I don’t like this, I’m worried that they might gang r*pe me.” And then she just continues on like normal after that thought. What?! And not only does the fmc seem incredibly stupid but what a horrible person! How she interacted with other humans in the beginning was ridiculous. Again like something a middle schooler would write. It made no sense what so ever her reactions. And the mmc was equally unpleasant. So between the unlikable characters, the ridiculous sentences, and the mmc mentioning several times his worry of her lack of her hair in certain places. Yeah, they give their pets crotchless clothes 🙄🤦🏻♀️ I was done for. There are many many books with this same trope that are a million times better. Please spare yourself. ... show more
