Let me start with some helpful tips for assembly. Firstly, lay everything on a table, bed, or whatever flat surface you can use. Once the parts are laid, make sure everything is there by using the parts list in the instruction booklet. Once all parts are confirmed present, read all the instructions. This may seem wasteful, but the company knows how to build the product and there may be a special step that would not be obvious that the company shares. Once that is done, the first step involves adding the vertical tube supports to part “C”; part “D” is the next step and follows the same procedures. You have to insert three tubes into the “condo” and align their holes with the holes in part C. Basically, you’re trying to position the tubes so the bolt holes in the tube and the floor and ceiling of the condo align. There are hats (little flaps of fabric and carpet that remain from the drilling of the holes that were not removed) that will make it difficult to see to align the holes. The next helpful tip will help you get those holes aligned. One of the parts included is the Allen wrench to tighten the bolts. The Allen is shaped like an “L”; there is a longer side and a shorter side (this should be done with a drift, but the Allen will work here). Slide the longer side of the Allen through the hole in part C. Next, (inside the condo) grab the support tube and insert the Allen into the bolt hole on it (the tube will have to be close to where is is supposed to go for the Allen to reach). Move the tube into its home, keeping the Allen inserted the whole (pun) time. Once the tube is upright, wiggle the Allen in a circular pattern until the bolt hole is perfectly aligned. Remove the Allen and insert your bolt. Doing this will eliminate the hassle of blindly finding the holes in the condo, and it will move the hats out the way too. The last tip I’d like to mention is that you need to tighten the bolts firmly, but beware that over-tightening may result in cracking the wood. The Allen wrench is small by design; it (almost) prevents you from being able to apply too much torque to cause damage. Don’t get your drill and use an Allen adapter or even use a multiple-Allen tool, because you will be able to generate excessive torque. Ok, now that it’s assembled, I’ll give my review of the tree. My cat is eighteen pounds, and he loves the tree. He had his teeth cleaned yesterday - when the tree arrived - so I assembled it while he was gone. As soon as he entered the dining room and saw the tree, he went right into the bottom condo. Steerpike, my cat, likes to look out the window at night. He has another tree by a different window to which he goes for some sightseeing after eating. This tree is taller, and it fits the height of the dining room window perfectly. Last night, under supervision, he was able to get to the top , flat piece of the tree - he was a little reluctant and groggy , so I removed the elastic border. Once removed, he jumped right onto the top. As I said earlier, Steerpike is eighteen pounds (not overweight, just long!), and the tree didn’t wobble at all; it is very sturdy. There is an included screw and anchor to tether the tree to a wall to prevent tipping, which I installed today as a precautionary measure. There was no smell when opening the box and laying the pieces on the table. There was some carpet fuzz, but nothing out the ordinary. Steerpike loves his new tree, so he asked me to recommend it to you guys!

This is a nice cat tree that is actually designed for adult cats instead of just for kittens. More for declawed cats, though. The measurements provided are a bit off. And the directions have the 2 enclosed spaces mixed up. But other than that, it was pretty easy to put together. My husband had it assembled in less than 30 minutes. With help from the cats, of course. The cat houses, or enclosures, are roughly 18x18" with the fabric installed on them. The fabric is soft but anything but durable. My cats will have that shredded in no time, which is very disappointing. I do not understand why they continue to use that flimsy fabric on something that cats are going to claw up. ONE of the posts has sisal on it from top to bottom, about 15 3/4". All of the rest of the posts on this tree are completely covered in the flimsy fabric from top to bottom. No sisal at all. Expect to see bare cardboard on those in a short period of time. I don't know how the cats are supposed to access the platform on the very top other than jumping up from the floor. There is almost no way to jump from the middle section onto the top. That is just poor design. If they would have lined the top platform up with the edge of one of the long sides & had it offset instead of centered in the middle, there would have been a little more room for a younger agile cat to get onto the top from the middle section. But now I am going to have to set something next to this cat tree to allow my cats access to the top platform as they are not all the most graceful of their species. I was considering rating this as 3 stars for the cheap fabric, design flaws and lack of sisal on the posts but my cats seemed to like it. Our 2 biggest boys fit inside the houses with room to spare. That was impressive.

We have three cats in our house, two of them are larger cats, and one isn't. We're glad this tree has sizes for the larger cats, as most don't. When this was being put together, one of them came up and was checking out the construction, and seemed interested. It was as the instructions say easy to put together, but took a little longer than I thought it might. Could have just been me on a slow day though - haha. Anyway, once it was together, all three of our cats checked it out including the oldest cat who generally doesn't bother with things like this (beyond a scratching post). The bottom most compartment she went in instantly and hung out in there - I was quite pleased by that. If you look in the attached picture, she took a piece of paper in there with her, you can see it sticking out. We have another tree elsewhere in the house with a 'pouch' that they sit in so I'm sure they'll take to this one quickly. All the levels have been used already by one of our three cats, so I'm pleased by that. We put ours by the window to our back porch so they can use the top spot as an area to look outside, which you can see one of our cats actively using in the attached photo. Also given it's by the window, they can use our windowsill to get up to the higher levels more easier. This worked very well, and we're pleased at the height - that it's not an 8 foot tall one which we've had before, we like this height.
