    • Works for What We Needed It For

We live on just under 4 acres on a 2,000 acre lake slap in the middle of the woods. We have been able to make ourselves a nice yard, and enormous above-ground vegetable garden (40 planters), even though we are on what is considered wetlands in Florida. Mowing and pruning is an all day job. We have Oak, Cypress, Cedar and Pine Trees all over the place and every one of them except the pines have small branches that are too big for pruners and too small for our chain saws. We had a project that we were working on; making space for another shed on our property. We knew that we needed a small portable electric saw and came straight to Amazon. When we saw this GardenJoy Cordless Power Reciprocating Saw and read the reviews, we figured that this would suffice for what we needed to accomplish with removing lower hanging branches that were not already cut with the chain saw. When we received it, we unpacked it and found that it came with 2 blades. I am an extensive woodworker. I build all kinds of things, including very nice furniture pieces, so I work around saws and blades all of the time. My only complaint about the unit comes from the included blades. I have owned more than I care to count of blades made from this same steel, and I have discovered that it is like butter. WAY too soft. This causes the blades to go dull VERY quickly. I did not feel like sharpening blades every hour or so. I happened to have several blades that fit this reciprocating saw. I chose a blade that I knew would hold up and attached it to the tool. The battery held up for the area that we decided to work on for the day. This was only a portion of what we needed to prepare. It was just about dead when we stopped. We worked for about 2 hours. The saw wasn't run that long, but a good portion of the time we were using it, so I would give the battery 4 stars when comparing it to my other cordless tools. The case that it came with is a bonus and prevents you from having yet another tool laying on a shelf collecting dust between uses. The Safety Goggles that are included are on the cheap side, as are the gloves. I threw both of them away. The goggles looked a little risky, so I used some I already owned. The unit itself looks well-constructed, but the accessories are really cheap, including the blades. It's still a good value, though. Blades are not expensive and you do not want to wear out the motor with dull blades. Just order a couple when you order the GardenJoy Saw. Overall, I like it. I cannot say much about the battery yet. It's too soon. Anyone who owns cordless tools knows that batteries for these type tools are sometimes a crap shoot where sometimes you get lucky with a battery that will hold up for a few years and sometimes you end up with one that takes 2 charges and bites the dust. For the price, this is a Good Value and functions well, but make sure to buy other blades. 4 Stars ... show more

I gave this to my husband as a spring gift and he loves it. It’s so much easier to handle than a trimmer. Quick to charge, simple to change blades. This even came with a pair of gloves and safety glasses. (These aren’t the highest quality, but it’s the thoughtfulness that counts.)
