  • Forged in iron 60 inch weeding rake, makes removing unwanted weeds out of your garden.
I never thought I would say you could save time raking your garden. Every season when we need to prepare our soil for our spring vegetables, we spend several hours preparing the soil. There is nothing time saving about preparing your garden, that has winter weeds scattered through it. If you had a rake like this 60 inch rake with forged iron tines and sharpened flat blade edge cutting the tops out of the weeds, then you don’t have a rake designed to help you save time. The Atfverdex 60 inch weeding rake is the exception. This rake has a very unique head. I told my wife it looks like front teeth of a shark. When you pick it up, first thing you notice is how heavy the head is. It is a forged reinforced six-tine design with a thickened rake head with sharp cutting edges. The six plow like teeth are sharp. Plus, behind the tines, a piece of iron that is sharpened. This flat blade works like a knife, designed to cut those tall weeds off at ground level. When you place the head flat on the ground, the handle is at a 59° angle. This angle lets the rake pull across the lawn or garden so this sharp blade can cut your unwanted weeds down. When you change the angle and let the tines penetrate deep into soil it uproots weeds while severing stubborn roots.(The blade is very sharp. Exercise extreme caution when using it.) When I first tried this rake I wasn’t sure it was going to work on my last seasons potato patch. I’ve tilled it several times since harvesting our potatoes. After it’s been fallow since September. Because the ATFVERDEX iron rake 2.0 is forged from high-quality iron with a rust-resistant coating and reinforced at critical joints designed for lasting durability. I’ve worked with similar rake designs only to find the tines do not do well I. Hard soil. The Atfverdex rake, being iron forged is made to resist deformation. Its thickened tines ensure stable operation even in dry, hard soil or with tangled root systems. The top of my soil was packed down. I was cautious of those rakes I used, that had 4 and 5 tines. After approximately 10 attempts to break the soil, the tines showed deformation. The 60 inch handle offers user a comfortable, secure grip. For those of us who get tired of bending over to weed. This rack provides less strain on your back. I had a small patch of dandelions, crabgrass and other grassy weeds poking through, in my back yard. After working in last years potato patch, the soil broke up and I was able to draw the 6 tines on the rake though my future okra patch. This rake makes my yard tasks for a maintained yard. This garden rake with the shark teeth tines is really a 5 in 1 tool; weeding, loosening soil, tilling, leveling, and sweeping—into one tool, reducing tool accumulation and boosting gardening efficiency. ... show more

  • Good specialty rake but use caution, it is very sharp and pointy
This is a pretty serious rake. The description states that the blade is extremely sharp, and they're not kidding. Be careful with this as the business end of this rake could really hurt someone. It's also very strong. You'd need exceptional strength to ever bend the tines on this rake. This is almost like a manual tiller. For breaking up hard soil it works great, and for certain types of weeds it also works but you'll want to be careful that you don't just cut off the top of the weed and leave the root. Something like crabgrass for example has a pretty tough root and may not come out using this. Probably should be obvious, but you can't use this in a flower bed that has landscape fabric (to remove old mulch for example) as the tines are too pointy and will tear up the fabric. I consider this a specialty tool, it's not a general-purpose rake, but it has definitely come in handy clearing out an area around our hot tub that we filled with pea gravel. We're going to be creating some new beds soon, and this will definitely help clear those areas as well. Assembly is straightforward. There's no pilot hole for the wood screw that attaches the handle, and the handle is made of hardwood, so I definitely recommend drilling a pilot hole or else you're going to have a real tough time with that screw and will probably strip the head. If you do, make sure you replace the screw with a stainless steel screw. After using this rake, I recommend hosing it off and spraying a light coating of WD-40 or something similar to prevent rusting. You might also want to fold a piece of cardboard over the tines and secure it with a rubber band or two, to prevent injury. If there was one thing I'd improve, it would be to include some sort of plastic cover for the tines. They really are sharp and very pointy, so use caution. This is a good tool to have in your shed, and if you take care of it, it should last a long time. ... show more

  • A hoe with an attitude
Okay, I'm going to try to do this one more time, my cat keeps trying to "help" me write this because she wants "her" tablet back. Silly li'l kitty. Okay, quit looking at her! This item is heavily constructed, good thick chunks of plate steel, it's not sharpened to a 'touch it and bleed ' kind of edge, rather a 'look at how little chance these weeds have ' kind of edge. Once you drag this across a part of your yard its going to dig in, cut through the roots of weeds and any other plant that happens to get in the way. It does precisely what it advertises on it's product page. I took a star away because of the one flaw, in my opinion it's a major flaw unfortunately, the angle that the head is attached to the handle is too sharp. To use it comfortably you would have to do one of a couple of things, change the angle the head is attached to the shaft, OR adjust the angle of the shaft. Each solution involves it's own difficulties and PITA workings. To change the angle of attachment of the cutter head would mean breaking or cutting the weld that attaches it, then padding it and reattaching the head. The second solution would involve bending the shaft just before the cutter, this could result in the shaft bending or collapsing at that point, this could also put the altered shaft in a position that interferes with the operation of the weeder. Now just as a note for the manufacturer, this is my suggestion and observation, even with this thought the weeder dug up and cut through the weeds superbly. Would I buy this again? Yes. Would I recommend it to others? Yes. ... show more
