When I read some other comments about this product, I was hesitant to order because of the difficulties they were having. Then I realized that they were old comments and took a chance that they made some changes to the design if that was really the issue. I'm so glad I took a chance. This is the third plant stand I've owned so I am familiar with using them. I did not experience any of the negative things mentioned in other comments. This product arrived earlier than expected, which was great! It came in two boxes and everything was intact, including the bulbs. I did not find the instructions difficult to follow, BUT I took the moments to read them over FIRST before I started to put it together. There are a lot of details you need to know of first so you don't have to take it apart and reassemble. Assembling the plant stand was easy, everything lined up just right, and all I needed were the tools they suggested in the instructions. It took two of us about 30 minutes to put it together. I could have done it on my own but was easier with another person. I would suggest that when you are putting the chains in through the holes on the sides that you tip the unit so the chain drops through each hole. It made that part super easy. No need to thread anything to the chain and the unit is light enough to do it since the light fixtures are not installed at this point. Once put together, it rolls easily across the floor. This was a must-have for me. The chains to lift and lower the lights work well. One of my old (20+ yrs) tables was difficult to raise and lower the lights so I am really happy with this setup. There is some heat that comes off the bulbs so that's something to be aware of if you are going to be propagating something and you would like the top part of the plant to be cooler than the bottom. I just raised the lights away from the plants and turned on a small fan and that solved the issue. The cords to the lights are long which is great. I would highly suggest getting the "Titan Controls 8-Outlet Power Strip w/ Timer, 120V - Apollo 14" from Amazon. It's fairly priced at $30.10 by Till & Root. I thought I would have to have two power strips and a timer but this is all in one so it saved me money in the long run. It has two rows of plugs, one that supplies constant power (like for a heat mat) and one that is run by a timer for the lights. I love that the plant stand has trays with sides that are taller than an inch. It will definitely keep the excess water in. The plant trays I purchased fit 5 trays on each level/200 plants per level, 600 plants if I filled it up, which if you think it's too much money to spend on this stand, consider it paid for in one planting. Where I live you're not going to find plants for less than $1 in the spring. Plus you're limited in a selection based on what others want to grow. I'd rather pick out my favorites and grow what I like. If you won't use that many plants consider selling them to your neighbors. There are lots of uses for this plant stand year-round. It's December and I've had the stand now for a few months and I'm growing herbs, cuttings of houseplants and cuttings from a bonsai collection. Overall, I really like this plant stand and believe it will serve as a great place to propagate plant cuttings and start plants from seed just as I did for years on my other tables.

This table is excellent. In 2019 my orchid hobby grew by leaps and bounds and I found the need for more growing space in a limited environment. Gardeners Supply to the rescue! With 3 shelves I was able to put many of my smaller plants on humidity trays (not included) and be assured they were getting adequate lighting. I have orchids of many different species and even in the winter, I have some blooming. I would/will buy this table again in a minute. I am absolutely not mechanically inclined, still I was able to assemble the table myself in about 3 hours. (There IS some assembly required, no question. But worth the trouble.) One note: The table comes with speciialized fluorescent bulbs. Recently I read an article saying the led bulbs were best for getting orchids to bloom. So I bought some and tried to install them on this table. Installation was easy, but the bulbs went out within minutes (they are fine, just incompatible with this table). I wrote to Growers Supply, perplexed. They promptly responded. This table is very special. It has an electronic ballast, and specialized fluorescent bulbs. (Probably why they work so well.) They explained that other bulbs don't work with this table, but if I want led bulbs they do have some that will work. I'm sure most people will be completely fine with this table as is, but for you other crazy orchid growers out there I wanted to share this info.

Overall I love this product. The package was missing some small parts because they are lost in shipping. The company send out replacement fast. Great service. My plants are doing great. Seeds start fast, I use mainly for sprouts. Herbs are growing crazy. The only thing is the weakness of the bottom tray. Top two tray has middle bar to hold the light. But the bottom tray is so weak that is curved... I didn't even put one third plant compare the upper tray. I need to buy a metal frame somewhere. Please inform the company to solve this problem, so that the product can be perfect. I think it would be easier to include a metal frame for bottom tray as a temporary solution. But for a professional look, a bar as upper level will be ideal.

This is replacing an ancient light stand from decades ago we inherited, and it is much nicer than that. I will say the other light stand seems more "solid", is not on wheels, and has proper shelving that you then put the trays on - including an extra top shelf which comes in handy. The light stand at least took 2 hours for assembly, with 2 people working on it. Not complicated, but assembly could be made easier with just a few design tweaks. Installing the chain through the plastic holes presented more of a challenge than we thought - the plastic washer guides were not solid through the metal frame, so we found the chain would bend and fall down inside the channel rather than go horizontally through the plastic openings to come out the other side. Our fix was a large twist tie that we used one side as a needle, the other wrapped tightly around the ball chain end (see pics). Crude, but it worked. A simple part fix on their end would save some pain. The adjustable chain puller is just lame in general, as other reviewers have mentioned. Maybe an optional pulley kit you could pay extra for would be nice. Bought on Amazon because it was cheaper to ship than direct from Gardener's.

Lights are flimsy. Wires have faulty connections and flash when switch is off. Scary!! Bulbs go off when switch is on , will not use when not around . Not worth the money!!!
