Works Well - but be realistic

TLDR; This works really well if you are realistic about how many leaves you need it to pick up in a single pass and is for sure faster than raking. Can recommend for anyone who has issues with the process of raking due to pain. Works well with a leaf shredder. Full Review: This works really well but like the title says, you need to be realistic. It is not going to pick up a mount of leaves in a single stroke. You have to set it up correctly to the height of how many leaves and you may have to make a few passes. But once you get it dialed in its phenomenal. I normally have issues with back strain and with repetitive motions, but with this I actually found that I only had to take one break. If you look at the first and second images, they are after my neighbor took a mower and got it in a line for me (he is a really nice guy) from two different angles. This actually helped me gauge how tall of a pile it could pick up. And what I found is that if configured correctly (setting the height) you can pick up to about half an inch thick of leaves. This will leave some leaves behind as you go but thats easy to get on second pass. The other images show progression of one hour and then when I thought I was done. This in total took me about 1 hour and 27 minutes. Normally it takes me about 4-6 hours to just clean up that many leaves. So I can say without any bias that this does work if your realistic. One thing to note is that while it does pick up well, due to my initial error in height adjustment, I had to pull leaves into the retainer. Speaking of the retainer, it needs to be emptied when leaves are touching the bar, or a little before. If you do not, it will be a lot harder to get the leaves into one of those brown bags for the curb. If you have a small yard or only 1 tree this can work really well. Larger yards or more trees may benefit more from taking a mower to it first. This will get the leaves down to a more manageable amount. Also one thing I would recommend is if you are low on bags or just want to be efficient get yourself one of those leaf shredders. It will make containing the leaves this picks of a lot easier and will be space efficient.

Doesn't get everything but makes the raking way easier by picking up the majority. Even picks up the pears from our tree which was my main reason for purchasing it.

A lot better and faster than standard rakes

I have 3 gigantic trees, and wanted to spend less time raking without ignoring the leaves completely. I didn't want to have to maintain a gas engine, nor did I want to use a lawn mower. I found this, but I was skeptical. Not anymore. I've used it only once, but it worked well. It was easy to put together, and it took me less than 20 min. If you can put other things together, then this is no more difficult. The written instructions were a little confusing, but the diagrams were excellent and I figured it out. It doesn't get every single leaf, and so if that's what you want, use something else. I went over each area multiple times, but it is still much faster than raking. It took me 1.5 hours to do the same amount of raking that took me 6 hours to do last week. The leaves were a bit damp, and that probably limited its effectiveness. I expect it will work better with dry leaves. One of my neighbors watched my progress and was very impressed. I haven't had enough time to tell if it's durable.

Useful as a Stick Holder Than a Leaf Sweeper It never picked up leaves, grass clippings, or yard debris—just the occasional stick. In fact, the collection bag ended up being more useful when I removed it and used it to hand-pick debris myself. I tried it on multiple surfaces and in different conditions with little to no success. For the price and effort required, a regular rake was faster and far more effective. Very disappointed with this and it broke within two uses.

Insufficient capacity

Works as advertised, maybe even better. However, gave it 3 stars due to its limited capacity and difficulty to remove and dump and reinstall the leaf hopper. Also, there is a brace across the middle of the hopper that impedes easily dumping the hopper. This item is probably better suited for a small yard with a light leaf cover. Very inefficient for my yard and I no longer use it. Just sits empty in the garage. Will take it to Habitat to recycle.

Great leaf collector!!

This Gardena leaf collector is great. It collects leaves, small branches, dead grass, most nuts and also random things that may end up in someone's yard (e.g. halloween candy wraps). It took me a few attempts to figure out the optimal sweeping height. To efficiently tighten the knob/screw system which set the sweeping height, I would advise to hold the plastic rectangle which is at the base of the screw while tightening the knob. It makes for a tighter fit and it prevents it from coming loose (My yard is not flat and the soil is uneven which create a lot of vibrations in the machine). I am first time lawn keeper (started 9 months ago). I take care of my own yard for the first time and I am still in the learning phase. What I had learned from others is that raking leaves is not fun, even with a leaf blower, and it takes a long time. The leaf collector picks up at least 90% of the leaves in two passes which is as expected. It takes me only 30 minutes to clean up about 5000sqft. The shape of the basket makes it easy to bag leaves (provided the bag is bigger than the basket of course). It was easy to put together following the instructions. There are visual instructions which are tied to written instructions which come in english, french, spanish, dutch, german ...etc.. It took me perhaps 10 to 15 minutes to put it together using an electric screwdriver. I like the look of it. It is light and maneuvrable. It can be stored vertically provided you have little stopper to prevent it from rolling. I recommend this product!

Way better than raking and hauling!!

First impressions are really good! I will update if this thing fails too soon (I expect this to last a minimum of 2-3 fall seasons) 1) We dont rake. We are not raking people. We own 3 rakes that have gone underutilized because we didnt know how often we would choose to say "eh...". I know-- not good. 2) But this is a pretty good! We enjoy pushing it and watching leaves funnel in... tossing the leaves is easy peasy. There are no sharp blades so we even had our kids push it around a bit! Wooooo Put your ear buds in and enjoy a crisp fall afternoon pushing this a while. Its like a vaccuum and it inherently not going to pick up everything in 1 pass. But! Compare this to tossing around and dragging the old rake... way way easier on your back... even kinda fun! 3) You will still need your blower to get things outta corners and crevices... you might need a rake to finish off if you want perfection. I am not seeking perfection here... i just want it decent so I dont have mini ice patches all over the place from leaves in random spots I missed because I didn't go do what I was supposed to do with a laborious rake. Personally-- i think this product is fantastic!! Where can I buy extra flippers when these give out!? This is a definite upgrade from raking! Try it out!

Does what is needed with multiple passes.

Easy to put together. A hammer is required to get the wheels on correctly. Seems a durable construction of heavy plastic. Users must lift while pushing and find correct height adjustment for the lawn. Don't just push with it lying flat on the ground. Requires several passes and if there are any low lying areas it either misses them or must be lowered. Picks up small sticks. Was purchased to pick up Maple seeds from our tree and it works well for that along with the sticks from the birch tree.
