I generally don't like to provide free advertising, but occasionally I'm motivated by a product that surprisingly works and appears to be well-made. I think this is one of those American ideas that eventually got sold to a Chinese company for execution, but this turned out remarkably well --- so far. These are my initial impressions. I received the Garden Weasel yesterday and decided to tackle the flower beds at the rear of the house this morning before it got too hot. My wife is great at planting things; not so great at weeding. I'm older and don't like to spend a lot of time on my knees. Using the Garden Weasel was super-easy and I had collected a large black trash bag full of dandelions in about an hour's work. It took the weeds out down to their roots. I found that I could tilt the Weasel slightly and just move it back and forth without doing a full rotation to extract weeds close to the foundation or sidewalk. This saved me a morning's work with no strain on my knees or back. The tool held up well in hard, dry soil and appears to be very sturdy --- not the usual import but the label does say "Made in Taiwan", not China. I'm happy with my purchase and believe the Garden Weasel to be well worth the price. It saved me a lot of pain and allowed me to work more efficiently. All joking aside this thing is awesome! You will wont to work smarter not harder so wait until after a good rain if you have hard soil! We here in mid-michigan have sandy soil or clay there isnt much inbetween. It does very well in the sandy soil no matter wet or dry and while it will work just fine in dry clay my arms and old back protest so I wait for rain to weed them areas. Ive found that even if this doesnt totally free a root it loosens it up enough that it can be pulled much much easier then if you had just tried to yank it out with or without one of the hand puller tools (looks like a forked screwdriver lol). The only plants that it didnt fully pop out were some very very deeply rooted wormwood, these have a crazy long tap root but as stated it did make getting them out 100 times easier even if I had to give em a yank. For dandies, plantin, stinging nettle, spurge, st. johns wort,etc.its perfect and works great. Im kicking myself for not buying on of these sooner. Super easy to use, well built, back saving for sure and so much better than spraying everything one doesnt want with chemicals! Love it wholeheartedly recommend buying one! ... show more

    • Not for hard soil.
I got this as an alternative to another weeder by a competitor (bright green, with spiral tangs and a ratchet), because after ten years I had literally worn the other one out. This works great in softer soil, but for me, with soil that often becomes very hard and is rocky, it's just not sturdy enough. The biggest issue for me is that the tangs both tend to bend, and after a while I have to straighten them out again. I don't know how many bend/straighten cycles they will withstand, so I have gone back to the competitor's model (bought another one). I think in softer soil, this will be fine and you'll like it. ... show more

It'll save your back for ruin your yard. It'll leave holes all over the place. It's definitely worth it, but be prepared to have bags of dirt on standby.
