My son got something similar to this at Christmas and it had Dr. Mario game, which was about the only retro game I loved to play. Sorry about it. Not sorry. So when I saw this, I was very excited even though technically with the 800 games I was not guaranteed Dr. Mario would be one of them. The materials are seemingly lighter and maybe not as durable and yet, maybe lighter is better compared to what they knew in the 80s. The instructions were fairly useless, in my opinion. It kind of looked like one would require batteries for this and yet clearly there is a cord and option to connect with USB. So...I also realize to play it on my TV I have to have a TV that has the old school AV inputs. Luckily I still have some. That cord was easy to plug into the back of my TV. And then that cord, I plugged into the controller (this comes with two) I had plugged into USB and proceeded to play. The controller with the screen is nicely marked for the volume control and the on/off switch and the like. I was a bit bummed at first after being elated to find YES Dr. Mario and full disclosure I have not tested any other games the one button I thought was the one to flip the medicine worked inconsistently. When I tried the lower button, it worked perfectly. So...crisis averted. The other great news is the game can be played right from the controller. And then this morning I found out that after having the controller plugged into the USB all night, I could play it without being plugged in. AND I played for at least an hour and power was still going strong. So far so good. Now this comes with two controllers and after having the success I had so far, I thought okay maybe the other controller (that does not have a screen) can somehow be used, especially when hooked up to TV. Now maybe someone else could get it to work. And again, the instructions were basically useless. I could not. Although, now that I am writing this, maybe it is in case you want a second player. Anyway, for what this is and zero internet is required and all the games and the price point, like I said, I wanted to give this five stars. The reason I AM not is due to the second controller thing. And from me to get five stars, something needs to not only be what I expected...it needs to WOW me. While this item does kind of wow me, not everything works. So four stars it is.

This horizontal handheld gaming system offers portable play of 800 games, many are the classics you might find on popular home consoles in the 80's. There are tons of games on this thing, and some are hit or miss, but overall they are all mostly playable. The LCD is surprisingly decent, but small. I don't notice any ghosting when the images scroll, and it appears fairly sharp in that respect. The buttons are somewhat stiff, but they loosen up with more game play. There is a volume fader knob, and a video out port (TRRS to RCA cable included). This comes with a USB micro charging cable, and a second player controller. The second player controller isn't as good as the main one, but it's OK. The controls in the menu are a little sensitive, but you get use to it. It's a great companion game system for on the go, but keep in mind you won't be able to save games on this. But I don't know one game on here that has any save features, beside the save codes you get after each level or so. What surprised me is it's battery powered, and it's not just a built in battery but a battery bay with a Nokia style battery. This is awesome as batteries go bad and not everyone know how to replace the built in batteries. This would allow one to simply buy a replacement.

This handheld Gameboy Game Console is a retro gaming console that has 800 classical games on it. It is lightweight and portable. It has a 3.5” LCD screen. It comes with a built in 1200 mAh Li-ion rechargeable battery and a USB external micro charging cable. On a full charge you can play from 4-6 hours. It has a 2 player shared game mode. It comes with an audio video cable to enable you to have HD output to your large screen TV. These are the kind of arcade games that I used to play in the stores with quarters. These bring back all the childhood memories when I spent many hours playing the quarter machine arcade games. I have to admit the graphics aren’t as good compared to today’s video games but when you have 800 games in the palms of your hands, you cannot beat this deal. I would definitely recommend this Gameboy style game console. You will be reliving the games you played as a child such as Super Mario Bros, Contra, Popeye, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Pac Man, and many more.

My son says this is cheap and the games suck. He says the games are mostly knock offs (which seems obvious to me) but it has real Mario. He is 18 with multiple gaming systems (but nothing handheld, which is why we got this), so he may have had unrealistic expectations. This might be better for a younger kid! Do with that information what you will.
