The waist band is extremely comfortable and flattering. The lighting with my photos may be a little off. The black color is a true, dark black. The smooth fabric is forgiving so that it looks good on. I like the cut and fit. I wear a large or extra large depending on the clothing. I ordered an extra large in these and the fit is perfect. I do wish the pockets were not stitched down because they break the smooth line of the overall design and draw attention to the thighs. That being said, the pockets are well sewn and do not pucker or bulge. I would purchase again, but only for pairing with my longer tops.
