This is the fourth G-shock that I've owned (dw5600E-1, GA110, and gw6900-1). I love this watch. I love the blackout feature. It's flashy but discrete. The bull bar provides extra protection, as well as a nice aesthetic touch in that it also gives me a sense of security telling me that I can be rough and tumble with it. It's bulky. It's bulkier than the above mentioned models (the GA110 is pretty bulky) and I think its the bulkiest of the watches I've seen in the gshock line. The bars add another 2-3mm in thickness as well. IF you're adverse to thickness, this is not the watch for you. The band width is pretty wide as well. Now, I look better with bigger watches, so this fits me well. But I want to make sure people know that if they are questioning about I've noticed a lot of criticism regarding these polarized g-shock watches and the difficulty it is to see the time in the dark. However, I noticed that it is difficult to see the watch when viewing it directly at 90 degrees (that is, viewing directly on top). However when viewed between at a 30-40 degree angle, it shows perfectly, every time, even in low light. The Auto EL feature works for 6 hours when enabled, which is perfect in the evening. It lights up at 40 degree angle and has a blueish tint in the background, which is a great contrast to the black/red and is easily viewable. It also has all the other basic casio features that go without saying. I really like this watch. I don't want to marry it, and I'm not emotionally tied to it, but I like the way it feels on my arm and how it looks and compliments my color wheel (yeah I said that). I’m on my 4th G-Shock watch in 7 years. I lost my first one, and the other 2 work just fine to this day. This is the new one. I’m no watch collector, but I wear one just about every single day, and really only own G-Shocks. The only thing that makes me want to buy a new one is the single flaw I see in G-Shocks; the little plastic band that holds the strap down in place. After a few years they get brittle and break. An easy fix,(you can get replacement parts through G-Shock & replace the band yourself or even take it to a watch shop) but instead I decide its time to treat myself to a new watch. This has to be the nicest looking one I’ve bought yet, and I have no question that it will be just as durable as the others, if not more so. The metal wiring around it only makes it stronger. I work in the construction industry and am also a very active outdoorsman(fishing, mountain biking, camping etc etc etc) and almost never take off my watch for any of the above. No, it does not come in the classic G-Shock tin, but its a damn box thats useless once I put the watch on so I’m well over that. This watch was released in 2014 so its price has gone down all the way to $77 for the grey/green colored one. The one warning ill issue to anyone who decides to buy this watch is that G-Shocks usually come with the battery already on, so the battery may not last as long as expected due to the fact that its an older model. Another easy fix should the battery die. Overall, a great purchase and I look forward to getting some good years out of this watch until the time comes once again to order a new one. I own numerous watches, 15 or so, yet this is my first G-Shock. All of my watches are good to a depth of 100 meters, though some have leather bands, but I just wanted something rated better, to at least 200 meters, and with a resin or silicone band so I could wear it swimming with little fear of damage. I mean if you read enough reviews for 100 meter rated watches you will come across a number of them where the reviewer will claim theirs was damaged just in taking a shower. I own a Casio Pro Trek rated to 100 meters with a resin band, but I guess I too have just always wanted a G-Shock because of it's reputation for being tough. And speaking of tough, this one certainly looks the part. What got me started was seeing a G-Shock available at my local Costco however it was the GD-400-1 which had the reverse face and I couldn't read it well enough. But I'm glad because it caused me to start looking at the other color options available and I just couldn't resist the green and gold coloring on this one, it's just awesome looking, the way I always envisioned a G-Shock should look. It looks every bit like it was made for the Army! I like big watches and don't own any smaller than 45mm so this one fits the mold however it's probably the lightest one I now own, even than the Pro Trek I think. The other feature that looks incredible is the textured band, again, adding to the Army look. And even though I'm not a skateboarder, I'm sure the bull bars will prove useful some day but, even if they don't, the gold bars make a statement about it's toughness and look outstanding alongside the green and black case. I really like solar powered watches and did look at the few available in the G-Shock line, but just kept coming back to the looks of this watch until there was no doubt as to which G-Shock I had to have. I'll be replacing my own batteries when the time comes but just hope I get the years of service that G-Shock afficianados rave about. If you're on the fence about this watch, it does look even better in person, and absolutely looks better on my wrist than any picture I've seen. ... show more

I do like this watch except it is hard to read in medium to dark light. You can use the lighting option to turn the watch light on for about 6 hours and it will illumate the watch face as you move your wrist. This also can shorten the longevity of the battery. One comment i read does mention that he's had the watch for over 8 years without a battery replacement. The battery's average life span is 3 years.
