I got this heated dish so my outside kitties will always have water available during the winter. I keep cat houses with heating pads in my garage, and this is a great addition to their set-up. I tested this out, and the water got lukewarm, not hot, so there is no concern of the pet getting burnt. The large size will further help prevent ice from forming. The cord is nice and long with a chew resistant cover. I like how the heating element is inside the completely enclosed bottom. The straight sides should prevent tipping and the plastic feels fairly durable. However, I took a star off because mine arrived with deep gouges on the inside of the bowl. I'm not sure if the metal plug dug into it, but this should not be on a brand new product. Other than this flaw, it seems like a nice bowl. I will change my review if the kitties end up with a block of ice this winter. ... show more

I wanted to try one of these for awhile now and see how well this may work for a small flock of chickens and for the stray cats in the area that no one takes care of but me and one other neighbor. Even though it's still warm where I live, it's going to get very cold in the winter and I know this is going to help take care of both my flock and the cats. Heats up very nicely and makes the water nice and warm right now so i know when it gets blistering cold it's going to keep the water thawed and nice and warm for the critters, which in turn will help them stay hydrated during the cold winter months. ... show more

Got this bowl because I have an outdoor cat that won't come inside. Won't even let us pet it. So for him I have to feed him outside and while during the warmer months I have a regular bowl of water for him during the winter months the water bowl gets pretty cold and sometimes turns to ice. With this, and this is still warm weather, I plan to use to keep the water regular temperatures. Seems up to the task. It's heavy duty, large enough to keep the angle from leaves falling into it pretty good, and the cord is made so it can't be chewed on. When the weather gets cold and I'm using this more I'll probably come back and amend this review. For warmer weather this is a very nice unit if not a bit overkill. ... show more

I picked this up as a backup bowl since last winter our heated bowl stopped working on the worst weather. I purchased the only bowl I could find for the emergency. The blue bowl in the pictures is what is typically available in a store, however this one looks and feels much nicer. It has a simple design that will be easier to clean. It's thinner and feels more solid and sturdy. The wire cord is also seems more heavy duty and I like that the bottom is enclosed. This was also comparable in price. It's the end of summer here in Minnesota so I can't test out the heated portion of this water bowl but I can provide some feedback on the build quality. It holds a sizeable amount (just under a gallon) and is of a sturdy solid construction. I like that the bottom is sealed off preventing bugs, dirt or debris from entering that area. Unlike the majority of other heated pet bowls, this one has a plastic cord protector rather than the usual galvanized one that tends to rust over time. I placed it in the location where it will be used come winter to see if my senior Golden Retriever would accept it and she took a drink the first time she went over to check it out. I expect that this water bowl will serve us well this winter. For now, I'm giving it my seal of approval and a 5 star rating. I ordered this heated water bowl so I could provide fresh water for the stray cats that live in my area this winter. It hasn't been cold enough to freeze their water yet, so I don't know how it will work, but it feels sturdy and is a good size. It will hold enough water for a day. The electrical cord is covered to protect it from sharp little teeth and I like that it only uses 30 watts of power instead of the 75 watts or more that other heated bowls I have looked at. Most farm stores have the typical ugly green heated farm bowls and the bottoms are not solid so any debris or mud dirt snow gets stacked up under but this bowl has a flat bottom!! Also helps it stay level! Usually you see the metal wire wrapped around the cord but this one says it has the metal but encased in a chew proof cover which is probably great is you are using for a guardian livestock dog or something! I like the blue grey color. It feels heavy enough not to get knocked over but not too heavy either. I find for whatever the reason all these bowls only last a few seasons and then they stop working and I buy more. Time will tell if this is different from the others. ... show more
