    • Heavy Use - All That and Then Some!

This camera is what I needed. I had a FujiFilm x100s years ago and loved it, but traded up for my studio DSLR. I missed it greatly, but it was an extravagance to me because I couldn't change lenses. The E4, with the new 27mm WR lens gives me all the benefits I had in the x100s. Granted my phone is taking some good shots these days, but when you want be a real photographer, rather than a 'snapshotter,' - when you want to work your magic triangle, which means to tweak your aperture, shutter speed and ISO - and when you want to do it without carrying your 'big iron' kit - you can't be better served than with this small camera. The X-E4 with small prime lenses allows me portability, stealth and creativity. And when I throw larger X-Mount lenses on it, I can do anything that I can do with a full frame camera. This camera is now competing with my X-T2 as my favorite camera to use because the sensor and processor chip are so amazingly good. The image quality is stunning and the colors blow me away. I also shoot a lot of black and white. Fuji's black and white is an amazing experience. Yes, it is small in the hand and I think I will eventually get a grip extender, but this camera is not what anyone would call difficult to use. No, it doesn't have ISO on a physical dial like my incredible X-T2, but it does have an aperture dial, and all of the most important controls are quickly accessible with a touch of the Function button or the Drive button. When you consider Fuji's well thought out menu system, the ergonomics of the buttons, and the ability to add programmable functions, you'll realize that this camera, like most Fujis, gives you an ergonomic shooting system that can be compared to a sports car - while other cameras are more like Mack trucks. Both will get you to the same place, but why grind the gears of a behemoth when the light and nimble Fuji is such a joy to drive? ... show more

I had really high expectations for this camera and overall it really did meet all of them. But I returned it. Why? 1. The grip and thumb rest are really needed. That's an additional $150. The lens also really needs the lens hood and cap that comes with the lens if you buy it individually but not with this kit. (Why Fuji, Why!) That's another $20. 2. With the Fuji grip on it's difficult to get the SD card out, something that I do pretty often after shooting to load onto my computer and no, I don't think having to remove it every time is acceptable. 3. Rear joystick felt really cheap. I've used other Fujis (I have a X-T2) and this just felt like it would break and that wouldn't be a cheap repair. 4. MOST IMPORTANT ONE- The flip screen ribbon cable is just hanging out in the wide open. I didn't even notice this until a YouTuber pointed it out in their review and showed multiple examples on other Fuji cameras (and other brand cameras) on how that cable is hidden or shielded. These cables are very sensitive. One wrong crimp of that cable, snag it, or sloppy bending over time will completely destroy the rear screen. Comparing it to a X-T1, X-T2, and four Sony bodies, this cable's lack of shielding and routing is unacceptable, especially for something that's brand new and well over $1,000. Hopefully Fuji takes note of this and corrects this because without this issue I would have probably seen past the other issues I listed. ... show more

The X-E4 is my first Fujifilm camera and I am hooked. The camera is small and compact and makes a good general purpose and all around camera. With the included 27mm lens, the camera is a joy to shoot. Its hard to describe but its just fun to shoot with this camera. I have been extremely happy with my results and often get compliments on the color and look of the pictures. Lovely camera, all the bells and whistles, but the look of X-trans II (my previous camera, X100T) and raw file latitude is not there anymore. I've been looking and taking pictures with this camera and the 27mm F2.8 since september and maybe I'm just crazy but images lack the more organic depth look Fuji had. If my X100T wasn't broken I would test them both on the same images, but pulling up shadow and pulling down highlights in Photoshop just looks discolored and poor. But see for yourself: the cabin photo is from the X-E4, the other photo is X100T (x trans ii) So much more color and depth. Outside of my disappointment this is still one of the best cameras you can get. Grip is kinda lame and cramps my fingers, but tilty screen is nice, USB-C is great, interface - evf, etc. All great usability features. But, I would hazard to say, unless you need the video features (then you should get the s10) save your money and get a slightly older Fuji camera, which will be more then plenty. ... show more
