This works as a direct replacement for the original OEM 4x4 actuator. The element doesn't work as fast as the OEM to move the shift fork and lock the axle. It takes more than 30 seconds to lock the axle after the selection was made so shift on the fly while entering the are of need for 4x4 might get you stuck.
