  • Air blows very cold, is very loud, looks very nice, eco mode very stupid, very good unit
Size: 8000 BTU Style: 115V
On an 80 degree day I cranked it down to 68 to see what the air temp would be. I measured the temps between 39 and 45 blowing out of the thing and it was down right chilly! Wayyyy chillier than any of my previous units over my lifetime. It's pretty loud, but honestly it's a good white noise loud. The noise tells you it's working. When the compressor kicks on it's LOUD but pretty usual and routine. I find eco mode stupid. Every time I turn it on it defualt to being in eco mode making me turn it off. Some people like it, not me. It makes the entire unit turn off and on as it cools over the course of a few minutes, which is jarring on an audio level vs it always humming away. The air temp itself will also be in the mid 60s vs the ice cold ones I mentioned before. At first I thought that was as cold as it would get, but once I pressed Eco to disable it, the temps radically dropped into awesomeness. This thing almost gets TOO cold at times it's amazing after mowing the lawn. Overall this thing is worth it's weight in gold and I'd gladly buy another. The remote is pretty cool but honestly I haven't used it that much. I use it in a room that doesn't get central air so even though it's partially supplemented it's pretty well entirely cooled by this beast. ... show more

  • best window a/c for a small bedroom
Size: 5000 BTU Style: 115V
I did a lot of research before purchasing this unit and i'm pretty confident that it is the best window a/c available for a small bedroom. You don't need more than 5000 BTUs for small spaces. If you get a bigger unit, you are likely paying more than you need to for a bulkier machine, and ultimately less energy efficiency (since you are using it to cool a smaller space than it was designed and tested for). In general, the 5000 BTU units are very cheap and much more manageable in terms of size and weight, which is especially helpful if you plan to take out for the winter. Unfortunately, most of the 5000 BTU machines are budget offerings that are light on features. Not this one - it has three speeds, eco mode, dehumidify mode, a remote with remote sensing capabilities - features that are not available on most 5000 BTU units. It cost about $50 more than less well-equipped 5000 BTU models, but it's still much cheaper than more powerful alternatives. Now that I have it in hand, I'm very happy with the purchase. It was relatively easy to install - I needed a block due to our storm windows, reasonably quiet, and effective at getting the room cold. ... show more

  • Cool
Size: 8000 BTU Style: 115V
I bought two of these, an 8,000 BTU and a 6,000 BTU. Pay attention to the square footage of the room. The 8,000 BTU unit is in my kitchen window and on very hot days it struggles to cool my kitchen and living room which combined have more than the 350 square feet the model is rated for. I should have bought the 10,000 BTU model, but most days it is fine. Evenings, mornings and nights it cools my open floor plan kitchen and living room quite well. During the heat of the afternoon when the temperature is over 90F outside it's not enough, but it certainly helps and most of the time it cools my entire two bedroom apartment. The 6,000 BTU model keeps my 168 square foot office front bedroom very cool even on the hottest days. It is rated for 250 square feet. The electronic controls are alright and the remotes work pretty well. Both units are plugged into smart plugs which turn them off at night. The electronic controls stay set even after being turned off for several hours. They are relatively quiet for window unit ACs and keep my apartment cool. ... show more

  • Good features but not so quiet.
Size: 5000 BTU Style: 115V
I have some mixed feelings about this air conditioner. One of the things was that I was encouraged to purchase side curtains for the unit when I was ordering the unit. To my surprise when I opened the box that the air conditioner came in there were side curtains in it. I had not ordered any. So you might want to see what you get before you order additional stuff. Installation was pretty straightforward though the booklet leaves out a lot. Just use your common sense and you'll generally be fine. It never does mention the attachment of the top rail to the air conditioner but it shows a picture of it already having been done. For those of you concerned about window width it does take 23 in as a minimum to use both side curtains. If you're handy with a hacksaw you can alter that a little bit and make that a little narrower. Or you can remove one of the side curtains entirely to squeeze into a narrow window. As far as some of the other comments I have read I think noise is the most important. The compressor is very quiet. The fan is not. Even on the low setting it is as loud as my old air conditioner fan was on high. I'm guessing it does not have a squirrel cage fan which is usually quieter. I don't know that as a fact, but the fan noise is quite noticeable. I do like the efficiency of the air conditioner. There are some nice features built in. There is a remote control which can also function as a thermostat. It was an excellent value for the price but I do wish it were quieter on low. ... show more
