    • Fantastic window AC. Just what I needed.

Though I've only been using it for a few days, this window AC is fantastic. It has great air flow, and it's been keeping my entire little house cool (my house is only ~420 sq ft), so it's the perfect size. It's also fairly quiet. It replaced a more than decade old 10,000 BTU Frigidaire (FRA106CV1) that had the same external dimensions, so installation was a breeze. When I first ran it the temp went from 78 to 72 in about an hour, and that was with the fan speed on Low. That's pretty darn quick. It also looks quite nice, having a very clean appearance. The remote is almost exactly the same as the one used with my prior AC, so I didn't have to learn anything with it. But for those who are new to it, it's quite easy to use and very simple. I don't use the timer, so I can't say anything about it. The one very minor con I found is that when you turn the unit off, like if you're cleaning the filter, it will automatically be in Eco mode when you turn it back on. I don't use Eco mode, so I have to remember to disable it each time. But again, that's just a very minor thing. The only custom thing I had to do, and this is strictly because there is a light directly above the bay window the AC is installed in, is wrap the outside of the unit in window screen to cover the air intakes. Just the sides and top, not the back or bottom. I do this to keep moths from being sucked into the unit during the evening when they're drawn to the light. I learned this lesson the hard way many years ago. The screen in no way impedes air flow, and it helps to ensure the condenser coil stays clean for efficiency. Again though, this is just in my specific case because of the proximity of the light to the unit. Normally people wouldn't need to do this. All in all, this is a great window AC. I love my new window unit. It stays nice and cool in my bedroom where I have it. Not too loud and it didn't take my husband long at all to install. I'll come back if I have any problems, but as of right now I love it. The added remote control makes it nice if in the middle of the night I want to turn it off or adjust the temperature. I bought two of these units in April of this year and both of them are malfunctioning, I regret buying them. The one unit will not change the temperature from 66 degrees and all the other options like mode and fan speed will not change either. The second unit still lets me change the temperature but the rest of the options do not work, so I cannot change the mode or the fan speed or anything else. They do cool really well which is great but if you cannot change any settings, they are basically worthless. Along with this, they are also very loud. They broke soon after the 30 day return policy with Amazon so now I am dealing with Frigidaire to see if they can send me replacements but that means I need to re-install which is a big pain and I don't trust that they won't break again in a few months time. I would not buy these and I would not buy from this seller either. ... show more

Had this unit for 2 years now. Works perfectly fine. Easy to use. A little heavy so you really should have a second person to help lift/install if possible. I didn't but managed with no problem. In auto mode it automatically changes its fan speed depending on what it thinks is appropriate. Which is fine but can be a bit loud on high. I don't use the remote so can't really comment, but it does work. Overall, for the price it's a pretty good unit. Like with a lot of window units, the temp display is usually off by a few degrees using auto mode along with eco mode. Mine set to 66 and in a 400sq/ft area that's fairly well insulated, on a 100F day it keeps the entire space around 72 when unit is on the auto plus eco modes. Not a big deal, it's to be expected. Take it out of eco and auto and switch to cool mode only and pick your fan speed, it will keep the temp closer to your actual setting but of course you're using more power. ... show more

this little idiot cooled a 20x20 room from 89 to 80 in 10 minutes. i genuinely did not think i could find a 10k BTU that fit my tiny stupid windows but here we are!!! its been working quite well so far, and its not loud as sin, even on the loudest settings. cant confirm energy efficiency but we'll see when i get the bill haha! ... show more
