  • Reliable

Absolutely love this ice maker. We have two ice bins and have no trouble filling them up and keeping them full. It is quick and reliable.

  • I love ice water
Color: Red Stainless Style: Maker
I loved this little machine. It was on 24/7, (often not on Sundays — machines also need a day of rest). Anyway, I loved the constant source of ice! Now it stopped working, and I get the “red dot” message that it’s out of water. I’ve had it for 2 years so perhaps that’s its lifespan. I think I’ll buy another. ... show more

  • Great alternative for refrigerator/freezers without automatic ice machines
Color: Stainless Style: Maker
I recently downsized and moved into a house with a relatively small refrigerator/freezer without an automatic ice machine. There's also not a cold water line behind the refrigerator. I'll admit that plumbing is not my forte so even if I had a water line nearby, I still would need assistance installing an automatic ice machine in my freezer. I was also concerned about how much space an ice maker would take up in my freezer. I asked my brother-in-law for advice and he informed me that they make affordable counter-top automatic ice makers that need to be manually filled as needed. Fortunately, I have a good amount of counter space so I invested in a Frigidaire counter top ice maker. It works great and I don't mind using a pitcher to periodically fill the tank on the ice maker. It's also portable so I can relocate it to a different location as long as there's a receptacle nearby. So now I have the convenience of an automatic ice maker which was the one luxury that didn't come with the house. I'm also pretty certain that there's not enough space for a refrigerator with a door mounted ice maker/dispenser. I'm writing a review of this product for people like me that didn't know counter top ice makers were available and do an adequate job as long as the user doesn't mind manually filling it. Follow-up review. This unit was easy enough to install and follow the instructions. I noticed the morning after having a container of nice sized ice cubes that all the cubes melted. I'm a rather impatient person and I didn't bother to see if there were troubleshooting instructions for this model. As far as I was concerned, the unit should have remained cold enough to keep the cubes usable as needed. I like the idea of having a counter top ice maker that plugs in and only needs to be manually fed with cold water as needed. I also bought this unit since I have had good success with Frigidaire equipment in the past. I expected this unit to be plug and play. My previous house refrigerator/freezer had a cold water line at the back and of course a receptacle. All I needed to do was make the two connections and shortly thereafter I had an automatic door ice maker/cold water dispenser. I don't even use a lot of ice so I'm not sure what compelled me to buy a counter-top automatic ice maker. Regardless, I can't recommend this model as the ice cubes melted pretty much as soon as I had a full container of ice cubes. BTW, there isn't a door automatic ice maker on the refrigerator in my new house nor is there a cold water line behind the refrigerator made for connecting to some sort of automatic ice maker. Plumbing is not my forte but I wasn't against the idea of a portable counter top unit. Perhaps you will purchase this unit and have better success. My only recommendation is to read the instructions which I never bothered to do. ... show more

  • Good ice machine. Keep it clean. Keep it cold.
Color: Black Stainless Style: Maker
I'm surprised the model I purchased is no longer available becuase I'm really pleased with it. Look, the thing is you have to keep it clean. And it isn't going to do it by itself. I don't care what they say about "self cleaning." That's just a preset that it runs with the water. I go in with Q-tips and white vinger between deep cleaning. You still have to drain it and put a cleanser in it and run it through the cleaning cycles and rinse it (that's the deep cleaning). I do it about every four months. it depends on your water. As I said, I've been happy with my machine and it gets used a lot. I do not turn it off. Ever. I made that mistake with another ice machine in the past and that's when it grew mold. Keep the machine cold. Even when we go on vaca I leave water in it and I leave it on to prevent mold. I just toss the ice and make a fresh batch when we get home. I see people saying they turn it off at night or whatever. Thats why it gets moldy. ... show more

  • Great price/reliability value
Color: Red Stainless Style: Maker
I’ve had this Frigidaire EFIC121SS countertop ice maker for close to a year now, and it has impressed me enough that I’m seriously considering buying a second one just to keep on hand. That probably sounds excessive, but this is the third countertop ice maker I’ve owned, and the first two (different brands/models) both started breaking down within a month. Countertop ice makers are notorious for early failures — small compressors running hot, constant freeze/thaw cycling, and finicky sensors — so reliability is the number one issue in this category. Consumer Reports gives this model line a relatively low score, and I was surprised by that until I learned that their scoring doesn’t include reliability at all. That’s more of a black mark against CR than against the machine, though I understand they can’t realistically run long term reliability tests on every small appliance. Still, for something like a countertop ice maker — where reliability matters far more than noise, appearance, or even capacity — leaving it out really distorts the picture. And for what it’s worth, noise, appearance, and capacity are all perfectly acceptable here. I’ll also admit I’ve abused this machine a bit. I sometimes forget and leave it running all night — maybe once a week. Over the past year, that’s caused a gradual decrease in sustained production: the bullet “thimbles” get smaller faster when it’s been running nonstop. But despite that, it has never failed to produce ice. I put ice in all my drinks except coffee (that includes milk and beer) so having ice is really important. Thinking I might want a backup ready to go, I checked the price — I was around ready to pay $120. I was pleasantly surprised to find it’s actually much less. Meanwhile, the older EFIC117 model often sells for around $120 at the high end, even though in my experience the EFIC121SS is the better built and more reliable version. At typical Amazon pricing, the 121 can be up to 50% less than the 117, which makes the value even better. If you’re looking for a countertop ice maker that lasts, this is the first one I’ve owned that didn’t feel disposable. Even after months of heavy use and the occasional all night run, it will still produce. Full disclosure... to increase readability, AI was employed it the writing of this review; however, I supplied the core concept for this review, and it underwent 5 revisions for 100% accuracy. Lastly, if you get one and you find that it is producing too much ice, a simple hack is to turn the scoop face down in the bin; this causes the machine to think it is producing more ice than it actually is producing. ... show more

  • YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR - BUY A BETTER QUALITY ICE MAKER!
Color: Stainless Style: Maker
Despite following all instructions for use and maintenance, I have encountered several persistent issues that have rendered the ice maker unusable. The primary problem is that the ice produced consistently melts, even when stored in the unit's ice basket. This has resulted in a significant waste of water and energy, as the ice maker is constantly cycling to replenish the melted ice. ****UPDATE**** I have been trying to get in touch with Curtis International, to get a refund as I was outside of the return window with Amazon. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE FOR 2 MONTHS!! I couldn't understand customer service due to a language barrier - so I decided to email them. I have sent 3 emails. I have not received a reply to any of them. Currently going through the Canadian Better Business Bureau to hopefully resolve. Furthermore, despite my diligent efforts to clean the unit regularly, I have noticed a recurring mold issue on the interior surfaces. This is particularly concerning as I have exclusively used filtered water in the ice maker, as per the manufacturer's recommendations. The presence of mold raises serious health and hygiene concerns, making the ice produced unsafe for consumption. I have attempted to troubleshoot these issues by consulting the user manual and online resources but to no avail. I am incredibly disappointed with the performance and quality of this product, especially considering the Frigidaire brand's reputation for reliability. **** UPDATE 2**** I ended up having to contact the Better Business Bureau because the company wouldn't respond. So we are now going on 3 months and still no resolution. ... show more

  • Lets see when this one fails ... I predict within 2 years ... Its becoming a trend ...
Color: Stainless Style: Maker
This Frigidaire EFIC123-SS (at cost+tax was $97.40) arrived today on 2/22/2024. It is a replacement to Frigidaire EFIC189-Silver that failed on 2/20/2024. The EFIC189-Silver (at cost+tax was $140.71) replaced an Igloo ICEB26SS on 2/16/2022 after it failed. The Igloo was purchased on 2/21/2020 (at cost+tax was $128.51). Which replaced an Ice maker bought in SAM's for $79.99 cost (add 8.25% tax) around 2/15/2018. All broke from a plastic gear. All have the same internal features. All made in China. This new version EFIC123-SS was built on 1/2024. I predict it too will fail within two years or sooner as it has very cheap plastic compared to the other three. However, I did notice that this machine is lighter weight and it has many more vent holes such that you can "see" the internal compressor and wiring (not very water splash protected) where others were more sealed. I doubt the heat caused any of the past ice makers to break. It was the cheap plastic gear inside it. Each had a plastic tooth part and plastic shavings floating in the water the day it broke. Oh, interesting fact Frigidaire does not carry replacement parts for their compact counter top ice makers. That means these are meant to be throwaway appliances. So no matter the brand ... if it looks and feels like these three and you really need a counter top space saving ice maker (like I do) ... buy the cheapest Brand ... After all, they all are Built in China and made with Chinese Parts. As I can guarantee as long as that gear is plastic, and once a tooth chips off, that ice maker is toast. Now the good thing, this particular little machine looks like you can open it up compared to the older models and just might be able to replace that stupid little gear. So no guarantees how long these last (averaging 2 years for me, very consistently, different brands too). Good luck with the "insurance" not worth the hassle or money spent, but that's my opinion. Knowing my luck the machine will crap out the day after it expires. I'll be back to review in 2 years. Will it last or crap out just as all of these style ice makers do. Love the ice they produce, saves me freezer space, and have ice 24/7 and fast ... until that pesky gear breaks. ... show more
