  • Makes home balancing easy
With this and some inexpensive wheel weights, it makes balancing tires at home pretty easy. Once assembled, put the tire on the balancer (I had to pop out the center cap of my factory wheels). Mark either the high side (or low side) with chalk. Then lift the tire off the balancer, turn it and set it down again and make sure the chalk is still at the high side (or low side). It the wheel still shows the same high side, set weights there until it balances. Once balanced, attach the weights to the inside of the wheel and do one last check to make sure the wheel is balanced. Easy peasy. ... show more

  • Poor manufacturing quallity controle, but tunable to great
If you can't reproduce the same results after turning tire 180 deg, you need to tune it. All is not lost as it will be much better when finished. Lets start with easy first, Make sure the support post is perpendicular to the Base with a level and de-burr and sharpen the pivot point. Next take the spindle and file the four post flat on the lifting ring, this is important as they can get caught on rim and effect the balance's reproducibility. Level the bubble on the spindle on a level surface, use three shims as the rods are not the same length. Now lets check if the hole is centered, mine was off by 15 thousands needing more than 5 oz to compensate , Put it on the stand, if it isn't level, the center hole probable isn't centered and will need to be corrected. Add weights until the bubble is level. Next use a step stool and a peace of wood and clamped it to the stool, measure the off-set and marked the close side with a sharpy. If the of-set is more than 2 thousands, take the spindle remove the weights, center level and the centering plug. Insert a brass rod into the centering plugs hole, use a hammer or vise to expand it into the hole, then cut and grind it off just a little long, "a 1/8 inch brass screw shaft works perfect". Use a center punch and make a small dent just off center and a mark on the plug and check the off-set, adjust with the center punch until it is centered, now grind flat while keeping the centering hole. If you want you can add a small tapered plug , a piece of plywood cut with two hole saws, to help center it. Balance the spindle on a level surface and re balance on the shaft. Take a sharpy and mark a line on the spindle lift closes to the off-set and another 180 deg, preferably using a different color. Now you are ready to balance. use the lug hole closes to the valve stem and Aline with the sharpy mark. place weight on rim to balance then lift and rotate tire 180 deg and check. if the difference is more than an oz, go back and recheck the center, or use a little math. I have mine very sensitive and reproducible to less than 1/4 oz, from over 5oz when I started. Hope this helps. ... show more

  • Good value for the money
The balancer is well made. On the one I received, the base is cast metal, possibly aluminum. The bubble assembly would benefit from increased visibility and a protective cap when not in use. I modified the pivot point (where the pivot pin makes contact) to reduce friction which made the balancer more sensitive. The wheel should be removed from the balancer before attaching the weights. Made in China. A bubble balancer may not be as good as a dynamic balancer (computer/spin), but in may cases it will suffice. ... show more

  • Works out of the box
I tested this tool out of the box. It was calibrated. Placed the tire on and the bubble was off center. I turned the tire and the bubble kept pointing to the light side. I marked that point. Lifted and turned the tire and placed it on again. The bubble pointed to the mark as it should. I balanced 4 tires. I was surprised the car was driving like silk. The steering wheel no longer shaking and the ride was smooth better than ever. 5 star. I balanced the wheels on another car. The unit paid for itself already. Note: There is no need to mod or modify this unit. ... show more

  • Ersatz copy of competent old American design - lost in translation - doesn't work.
Anyone who says "does what it's supposed to" doesn't understand the math of science of measurement. More costly to make correctly - why the American company quit making them - as they were undercut by overseas competition appealing to buyers focused solely on price. In this case, the head is poorly manufactured, and particularly the female socket for the pivot is cast with sloppy dimensions that result in bad interference with the motion necessary to reveal the imbalance. This has the form of a bubble balance, but lacks the function. Paperweight only. ... show more

  • Slight modification needed
The balancer works...OK. The casting is slightly off where the fine point of the stand contacts the balancer top. I had to drill out the contact point so the balancer top would sit on the tip of the pin. Once I did this, the balancer was much more accurate.

  • Works well considering the cost of purchase.
I have owned one of these balancers for at least 20 plus years and it has worked well in getting my tires as close as possible to balanced and I cannot complain.. My older one must have gotten bumped and or damaged in my shop and did not work as well as I'd like so I bought another from this seller. Larger truck rims have a big center hole on the rim, If your trying to balance larger truck tires with this balancer you will need a friend to help you place the wheel on the balancer as close to centered as possible and then adjust it more by having the friend help to center it as close as possible. If this is done properly and carefully so as not to damage the little balancer your truck tires will be balanced as close to perfect as possible considering this tools capabilities.. I've saved hundreds of dollars using mine as many a friends have used it as well.. ... show more
