  • Does the Job, and does it pretty well.
Style Name: Junior
These Franklin Sports Ice Skate Blade Covers are pretty much as advertised. They're made with a denier polyester which is durable and abrasion resistant. It's also coated with PVC on the one side to make it water repellant. The center seam is reinforced with an additional strip of nylon to ensure there is enough coverage where the blade meets the cover. The inside is lined with a soft polyester fleece to absorb moisture off the blades and help to prevent rust from forming. Lastly the elastic cuff allows it to be self adjusting to various size skate blades. Now with all the technical features and aspects out of the way, let get on with practicality and usage. Fit. These blade guards come in three sizes: Youth (size 8-13); Junior (size 1-5); Senior (5.5-12), and I'd say they're pretty true to size. The junior size was able to accommodate a maximum blade length of 11" (snug), which means it can even accommodate those adjustable boot ice skates (big kid size 4-8). Convenience. Being a material blade cover, it has the ability to be folded or scrunched up without getting damaged. If at an outdoor rink, you can safely traverse areas that are poorly covered with peace of mind knowing that your blades are protected. The guards can easily be stowed away in your pockets while on the ice. Price. Blade guards can range in price from $6 - $15. These are priced at the top of the range, but part of it has to do with the fact that these are officially licensed by the NHL, which means they get a royalty. Overall, these Franklin Sports Ice Skates Blade Covers get the job done, which is to protect whatever else is in your bag from your blades. I think they are on par with their competitors in terms of features (moisture absorption from blades, reinforced blade area, adjustable) and the denier material they use is durable. If in a pinch, I'd pay the RRP; but if you can, hold off for a sale. They'd be a great value at less than $10! Since I can't really think of a feature that's missing, nor did I catch anything wrong with their design, and because they've used quality materials in the construction of it, I'm giving them 5 stars. ... show more

  • Good middle-of-the-road skate covers
Style Name: Junior
Franklin has been in the sports game for a while now, and while I know they're not the best-of-the-best, I've come to expect good quality at a reasonable price for them. These ice blade covers continue that trend. The stitching is solid and the material is holding up so far after getting a few junior hockey games under its belt, and it's done a decent job of protecting the blades and protecting other stuff in the bag from the blades. The kiddo thinks that the blade covers run a bit large, but not so much that it's an issue as the covers haven't fallen off. Overall, Franklin's skate covers aren't going to be the absolute best, but they're really good, and much better than their $14.99 price tag would lead you to believe. ... show more

  • They run small
Style Name: Junior
These blade covers are thinner than I would have expected them to be. They seem to be cut on the small side. The skates I have for my son are within the size range for these covers and they are a super snug fit. We have covers made by Howie's that are easier to get on the skates. The Howie's covers are also thicker and able to absorb more than these Franklin ones. I'm not impressed with these skate guards. They're not the greatest quality. ... show more

  • Decent for the price
Style Name: Junior
The fabric is sturdy but no padding and seems rather thin. However, for under $15 I was really expecting much other than something to help cover his skates in the bag, since that GRIT bag was $200.
