I've been fishing for a long time and what brought me to purchase this net is that I had the opportunity to use one which was owned by a friend. I typically do my 'serious' fishing up in Ontario Canada where we catch primarily: Northern Pikes, Lake Trout, Walleye, Bass, and Perch. Previously we used an old net that belongs to my dad which did not have the rubberized and coated netting... Sure you can land a nice fish with it, but the amount of headaches due to untangling hooks from the netting was miserable. This net doesn't get the treble hooks tangled in very much and overall is a HUGE improvement in landing a fish. You don't want to have errors when you have a big fish on the line and near the boat and the extension in the handle is fantastic. I bought this for my dad and for us to use next year when we do our fly-in up in Ontario! It certainly seems like fish are less shocked when landing them in this net. The rubber preserves their coating and the flat bottom lets the fish sit comfortably in the net. ... show more

This is really a heavy duty net! The handle extends nicely, giving you a good reach, and the net itself is large, so it will work well with large things. It's a bit heavier than I expected, but that's probably a good thing.

Big, well made net. With that said, I drilled a hole thru the handle to slide a bungee cord thru and hang it around my chest when wafer fishing. The down side to that is it fills the handle with water and makes a strong current pull on you even more. So to address this issue, I drilled two holes and opposite ends of the handle to help drain the water out. The extending handle is a huge help when you can't get the fish close. Okay, been fishing 40 years, plenty of nets. This net, by far, is the best I have had. Great extension feature, quick to deploy, easy to lock. Twisted nylon nets catch hooks and are awful to undo. The pure silicon rubber ones have no strength and tear easily. This net takes the twisted nylon net and encapsulates it in silicon rubber giving you the best of both without the deficiencies of each. Frabill is know to be a better quality net that I have purchased in the past. So, I bought 2 for kayak fishing. 1 was fine and in good working condition but the second one fell apart as soon as I took it out of the packaging. After close examination I discovered the the manufacturer forgot a couple screws that held the net to the pole. Frabill, you need to do better quality control checks before shipping. Send them an email and even though it’s only been a couple days I have not heard back, maybe soon! Other nets I have purchased have been great it has only been this one item. ... show more
