  • Best book on painting I own!
This is really the best book I own on painting now. Lea Wight's paintings are amazing and she is able to articulate what she is thinking about during her process really well. The section on how she approaches color is worth the price of the book itself. The text complements all the images well and I've picked up lots and lots of great tips. Also, the paintings are just fun to look at. Wight's brush handling and color choices are just really impressive. She brings it all together and that's rare. I open the book and just want to paint! Well worth the price! ... show more

  • Best value *****
I have come to expect two things from art instruction books: information and inspiration. Foundations of Classical Painting by Lea Colie Wight offers the best of both. This 144 page book is full, did I say full? (yes, I did) of illustrations and valuable information. The information covers all materials and methods to make sense of what painting is about by someone who is obviously credentialed. There are illustration on all pages, many times several per page. This is important for those of us visual learners. The illustrations range from basic to breath taking depending on the point being made. I can not imagine anyone not benefiting by this book! You can spend 40K + on a 4 yr. atelier or spend less than $25.00 on this paper back. Yes, they both have there place but dollar for dollar this is the best I've seen. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Beautiful contemporary painting style, good instruction
Admirer of Lea Colie Wight's painting technique and syle, I appreciate very much this precious book where she explains everything in detail. Classical yes but in a very modern style, it's a must for serious painters who want a solid base and a contemporary look for their artwork. Highly recommended.

  • Foundations.
Returning to oil painting, looks like a good review of the process but assumes strong drawing skills and familiarity with materials.
