Hefty axe but I believe the ax head is a bit smaller than the picture so measure it out before ordering. Also the metal is not a hammered porous finish as in the picture. This metal is a dark smoother finish more of modern cast iron look and finish. Looks like they ran the metal ax head through a machine to give it regularly spaced 1" line indentations to help beat up the metal for a rougher look but it's too regular of marks. Handle is flat brown stain as are the leather straps. Not the red leather as the picture. Oil on the handle may bring it to life a little. Leather straps are thin and flimsy so don't handle it too much otherwise they will unravel. The axe is definitely more like the pictures of other reviewers. Regardless, I like it and will keep it for display. It still looks impressive and most people won't notice the slight lack of an authentic look.

This was a gift. The recipient was quite pleased. Some of the distress in the metal looks quite intentionally made, and not as if it was from old iron or heavy use, but the majority of the finish is well done.
