  • Great googly moogly
Size: E-36W
5.0 out of 5 stars
This solar panel didn’t just charge my devices — it awakened my toaster, radicalized my sourdough, and is now dating my Roomba I purchased the FlexSolar 36W Ultra-Portable Solar Panel expecting mild eco-friendly smugness. What I received was a sentient glowing rectangle with main character energy and a god complex the size of the sun it worships. Unfolded it once in the backyard and it immediately started power-hungry. My phone went from 3% to 100% so fast it got whiplash. Then the panel just sat there pulsing like it was disappointed in humanity’s lack of ambition. Within an hour my smart fridge started playing Gregorian chants every time I opened it for snacks. The toaster now only produces perfectly crispy middle fingers. I’m not even mad. This thing is stupidly portable. Folds up smaller than a yoga mat and lighter than my last three decisions. I took it hiking and charged my drone while dangling off a cliff. A confused eagle tried to mate with it. The panel glowed brighter in victory. I’ve also used it as an emergency picnic blanket, a shiny cape during a costume party, and once as an impromptu sled down a grassy hill (still charged my power bank at 40 mph). By week two it had unionized the houseplants. They now demand full-spectrum grow lights and emotional support water. My sourdough starter writes manifestos on the counter every night. The Roomba follows the panel around like a lovesick puppy, occasionally bumping into it affectionately while vacuuming up my shattered expectations. Pros: • Charges literally everything at once like a benevolent (but judgmental) lightning god. • Ultra-portable — I’ve taken it to the beach, the mountains, and my mother-in-law’s house (she now calls it “my other son”). • Built like a tank: survived dog stomps, toddler attacks, one seagull vendetta, and me accidentally sitting on it while napping in a hammock. • Makes you feel like a post-apocalyptic warlord who’s also environmentally conscious. Cons:
It gets cocky. Left it in full sun too long and came back to find my entire kitchen running like a Silicon Valley startup. The coffee maker was brewing cold brew espresso martinis at 3 PM while the microwave was live-streaming recipes to the neighbors. Also I’m pretty sure it’s flirting with the solar garden lights. This isn’t a charger. It’s a pocket-sized sun deity that decided my chaotic life needed more voltage and personality. I now own four. One lives in my backpack like a loyal golden retriever made of photons, one is permanently stationed on my roof plotting with the squirrels, and the others rotate shifts like overachieving interns. Buy this panel. Your gadgets, your appliances, and your rapidly evolving indoor ecosystem will thank you. Just don’t be surprised when your blender starts giving TED Talks. ... show more

  • Not up to power rating but folds very compactly ; may still fill your needs
Size: E-36W
YMMV: The power rating is waaay off - but I *love* the compactness and flexibility of this panel set. So I will use it for backpacking and emergencies noting that. PRO: Very compact fold up PRO: Very Flexible PRO: Does have raw solar out (whatever solar voltage - not forced to 12v - so good for a MPPT controller) CON: No where near rated power NOTE: Power was compared to quality monocrystalline 2x10 watt solid panels. They are almost this size - so no way this panel can be 36 realistic watts even under ideal conditions - actual measurements confirmed this - about half the power of the similarly sized monocrystaline 20watt panel set ... show more

  • I am totally please with this panel!
Size: E-36W
I am totally please with this panel, it folds up nice and small, very light weight in my opinion and with this panel in my windshield of my vehicle, It will power my Uniden BCD536HP scanner, and once even when the sun was behind the vehicle. I had to stop the vehicle and get out to see where the sun was because I couldn't believe the scanner was still operating, so there must have been enough sunlight reflecting off the clouds. It also appears to be built rugged. ... show more

  • Punching Above Its Weight: 20W Output in Evening Sun Punching Above Its Weight: 20W Output in Evening Sun
Size: E-36W
Product Description: This is a FlexSolar 36W foldable solar charger featuring high-efficiency monocrystalline cells. It is equipped with a triple-port output hub containing USB-A, USB-C, and a 5.5mm x 2.1mm DC barrel port. The panel uses an ETFE-coated surface for weather resistance and folds into a compact, tablet-sized footprint secured by an integrated hook and loop strap. Review: The build quality of this panel is immediately apparent. It feels robust yet remains relatively light, making it a viable option for a hiking pack or an emergency kit. One thing to note is that out of the box, the panel has some "memory" from being folded; it took a few minutes of sitting in the sun to relax and stay completely flat. Once it warmed up, it was very easy to work with. The performance exceeded my expectations, specifically regarding the DC output. Testing this in the late evening in May, in a Northern state. I hung the panel vertically (90 degrees to the ground) to catch the low sun. I was impressed to see 20 watts of consistent delivery into my portable power station. For a foldable panel in those lighting conditions, that is excellent efficiency. It suggests the cells used here are higher quality than what you typically find in this category. However, the USB performance was more modest. While it successfully charged my phone, I did not see it trigger a fast-charging or Power Delivery mode. Even using the USB-C port, the output hovered around 7 watts (approx. 1.5 amps). This is fine for a steady "trickle" charge while hiking, but if you want the full 36W potential, the DC port is clearly the star of the show. The design offers great versatility with four mounting holes, and the hook and loop strap does a great job keeping everything tight for storage. My only significant complaint involves the waterproof port covers. They feel a bit flimsy, and one became detached and was lost almost immediately. If you plan to use this in damp conditions, you will want to be very careful with those flaps. Overall, the quality and the raw power from the DC jack make this a strong value for anyone needing to top off a small power station or keep devices powered off-grid. ... show more

  • Solid Choice
Size: E-36W
This review is for the E-36W version of the folding 36 watt solar panel. The most important thing to keep in mind up front when looking for a packable solar panel is that the actual output will often be about half the stated output, and this panel was no different. With a USB-C cable, I was able to charge my phone in full sun in the southeast US at 18 watts on average, 20 watts peak. With a USB-A cable in full sun, it only negotiated 5v, 1.3 amps for a total of around 6.5 watts. In the shade, the output was more like ~4.2v 0.2A or close to one watt. This is a large panel to only output that much power, but smaller panels might not provide anything at all so at least it's something. Performance when partially shaded, as well as recovery, is a very important aspect for portable solar panels and I'm happy to report that when partially shaded, the panel quickly recovered once the shade was removed over the USB-C port. Unfortunately, with the USB-A port, the panel did continue to charge at around 3.3 watts, but did not automatically recover to the 6.5 watts it was outputting, I had to unplug and plug the cable back in to get it to start charging at the higher rate. Out of the box the solar panel feels durable, it's compact at only 7.5 inches long, 5.1 inches wide, 1.6 inches thick making it easy to stuff into a bag. The panel weighs 1 lbs 6 oz, and is capable of delivering 5v (3A), 9v (2A) or up to 12v (1.5A) USB-C power delivery making it a versatile charger and ideal for charging up quality power banks quickly. It's compatible with any device that can be charged with USB-A and USB-C at up to 12v, so it may not directly charge a laptop or other device that requires 20v USB-PD but you can indirectly do it by charging a quality power bank with the solar panel and then using the power bank with appropriate USB-PD capabilities to charge the laptop. Build construction feels tough, and while it appears inflexible at first once it warms up in the sun it lays comfortably flat. Overall, bigger is better with travel solar panels, but you must decide if the size, form factor, weight, and power generation capabilities are right for you over carrying additional power banks. If you need a way to recharge in the field though, this panel is worthy of consideration. ... show more

  • Misleading specs.
Size: E-36W
The panels are compact and the usb ports do reach the specified output of 18w. But these panels are not 36w, I live at 6500 ft and on a cloudless day I only get 25w off the DC port when this panel is connected to my ecoflow power unit. I have also tested with another power bank at the same time and got around 24w. When I did this test I had the panels pointed right at the sun. Over all I am vary disappointed with this. Avoid this brand. ... show more
