I needed a portable camp fire solution for AZ because of the long periods of fire restrictions. My adventure vehicle is pretty small and I didn't have enough room for a larger pit and propane setup. I just did my first trip at 8400 feet. I used a 220g SnoPeak Propane-Isobutane camp stove canister. The adapter worked perfectly. It burned strong even with occasional gusts of 20 mph. The 220g canister lasted 3 and a half hours. I imagine at lower elevation and/or lower wind, I could turn it down and get even more time. Very happy with the purchase. It was exactly what I needed. The main issue to be aware of is this isn't going to warm up a big circle of people. You have to be sitting pretty close to get any actual warmth. Perfect for a 3 person circle around the fire. Still great for ambiance even if not ideal for providing warmth in larger groups. ... show more

    • Gas collects and explodes
At first, I loved it!! great flame produced a significant amount of heat for something so small. Literally perfect and exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately three different times it exploded from below. That sounds dramatic, but basically gas was collecting underneath in the open space where the propane bottle goes and exploding all at once. The last time it happened was when I requested the refund. It was lighting and going out repeatedly, and I thought my propane was low. Then there was a bang and it exploded from underneath again. 3rd times the charm. Dangerous item. ... show more

We like this little thing a lot! It's gives out enough heat and enough light to set the mood. It's small so don't expect a full on fire replacement. We're in fire ban so I'm this was the thing we sat around while camping mostly for ambiance. Overall happy with this purchase.

    • Portability is King - flame is decent
I read several Amazon reviews before purchasing one. I was on the fence since this is on the more expensive side for a compact fire fit. The design is attractive and the finish is applied well. I like that it supports isobutane with an adapter. This comes in handy if you are a minimalist and don’t want to carry larger propane tanks. However, I don’t think the flame gets as high while using isobutane. Keep in mind you should use the 3.5-7 oz isobutane canisters since they are low profile and will allow the flame king pit base to sit level. The larger canisters will cause the pit to be unstable and could be knocked over easily. Instead of opting for the proprietary looking and pricey 1/2 lb propane tanks in order for the pit to sit flat, I decided to purchase a wefaith campfire tripod in order to use a standard widely available 1 lb propane tank. The center hole in the tripod is just wide enough to allow the 1 lb propane tank to slide through without touching. The flame king pit now sits flush and is a perfect height for roasting those marshmallows and whatever else you want to heat up. Flame height is respectable and goes a good foot high or so. I do find the gas regulator to be lackluster as the adjustment from low to high isn’t very linear. Overall this is not a 5 star product, and it’s not for everyone. Don’t expect a ton of heat output like you would from a much larger 15-20” fire pit running on a 5 lb propane tank. I’ve included a video of the Flame King fire pit and (optional) tripod from our current visit to a state park. No wind at the time, so you get to see the flame as it runs on a 1 lb propane tank. Word of advice: do not touch the top of the pit above the regulator as it gets extremely hot. ... show more

    • Flawed design, but the only option if you need something this small
While this fire pit works fine and puts out a decent flame at 14,500 BTUs, it consumes a ton of propane—a half-pound tank will only run for just over an hour—and it has several frustrating design flaws. First, it is designed to use those half-pound disposable propane tanks, which are almost impossible to find in stores. You can attach a standard 1 lb disposable propane tank, but it sticks out the bottom by about four inches. Because the base is so narrow, this makes the unit too unstable to safely use without a separate support base. You can use a hose adapter to run it off a larger, external tank for a more reasonable run time, but there is no side exit hole for the hose to pass through. It is obviously designed to sit directly over an umbrella hole on a patio table. Adding a simple side exit slot for the hose would have made this infinitely more versatile. Portability is also a missed opportunity. It would be great to stow the mesh surround (which holds the lava rock) inside the base when the tank is removed, and keep the lava rock in a heavy-duty ziplock bag. However, you can't fit the mesh ring inside because the thick rubber ring used as the base encroaches on the opening just enough to block it. Removing that rubber gasket is all but impossible because of the heavy glue they used. A simple carry bag for the unit would have been a nice addition as well. Is it worth it? No. But if you are looking for something very small—much smaller than the average portable propane fire pit—there really isn't anything else currently on the market that competes with this size.     • Good quality small fire pit - great for our apartment patio
So far so good - product seems sturdy, works well, and the adapter for butane camp gas canisters is a nice addition. A great option for our small apartment and for camping trips. Note the grate doesn’t attach to the unit which could make it harder to replace propane mid use if using the rocks as you can’t tip it at all but overall no complaints and happy with the purchase! ... show more

    • Very disappointed and looking for suggestions on how to get it to work!
Very disappointed. I was excited to get this as we were going camping and the was a fire restriction. We bought 3 0.5 tanks to have available for use. We could not get it started, my husband is very mechanical and finally said that we should just trash it. We tried to return it but it is NOT refundable. Buyer beware is right especially for the price and the tanks not being included. If someone knows a trick to get it working, I would be very grateful. I’m still hoping I can get it working to enjoy. It’s zero stars from me at this point but had to put one to post my review. ... show more

    • Creates a nice fire! Easy to transport and store
This works very well for me! Packs up small and puts out enough heat for two people to huddle around. I have been using 230g isobutane cartridges with the adapter for fuel. You get a few hours of fire from each one.
